Hi everybody, noob on this site.

I own this Volkswagen and it doesn't have a shock sensor, just basic door triggers and immobilizer and I would like to install one.

Or how hard is to install another alarm?

Your best bet would be to install Directed XL series equipment which hooks on to the factory CAN system using the factory remote.

thank you, but I'm not familiar with this XL product line.

I'm aware that I have to use a can-bus interface of some kind, but I don't know anything about these.

they hook up directly to the original alarm with a T wire harness and to the interface I can install additional sensors or even a full alarm of my choice?

you think that I will need some vag-com programming too?

somebody on another forum advised me not to "play" with these cars if I don't know what I'm doing because I can create costly damages to my car.

that would be true?

thanks for any help you can provide.

the comment about damage is VERY TRUE. NOT the car to learn on unless you fancy the hard expensive way.

you can hook a shock sensor to the hood pin switch its very easy and many ppl have done it.. that way when the shock sensor provides a signal, it closes the curcuit and the car thinks the hook is open, thus triggering the alarm... simple, cheap (shock sensor is <$10.00) and efficient... i believe its pin1 in the twopin hoodswitch harness, (but u may wanna double check that)

Kevin is right, the two-pin under the hood  locates at the catch via a microswitch. It will have one brown cable and one other colour, use the other colour.

thank you all for your help.

I will be going the sensor route. found a diy on vwortex.

I already got a dei sensor and I will see if I can find 12v when the car is off.

got a Kenwood DNX5120 which has a bus interface(pac) which I believe supplies that power(red led blinks on the face of the unit)

and I don't have to use a relay.
