1997 Ford Explorer, does anybody know if it has PATS or any other system that needs bypassed? Thanks

Yes. The easiest is the "key in the box"

A transponder key was optional back then. Does your key look like H72-PTO at the following link: Ford keys ? If so, it has a transponder. A key in the box kit would work, but requires a key to be given up. You can find other kits at www.bypasskit.com
