Subject: can an immobilizer be reprogrammed?

Does anyone know if I can reuse a DEI 555f for a different vehicle?  I have on in a 2002 Ford F150, and I'd like to test one in a 2004 Ford Expedition - I just want to test the 555F before buying another one, because I haven't found solid information stating whether or not the 555F works with the 04 Expedition.  I'd hate to mess up the bypass by trying to reprogram for the 04 exp and then back to the 02 F150.

Thanks!

Still not sure that a 555F can be reprogrammed (have seen an editorial saying it cannot, but nothing official), but directed.com's Install Essentials product section takes me to this site that has compatibility charts for DEI bypasses:

Just passing along the info that everyone probably already knew, except me.

I just ordered an XK04 for $37.90 shipped (before taxes), but get this, the title of the auction is/was:

"DIRECTED XK04 CAR ALARM SECURITY DOORLOCK INTERFACE KIT"

XK01 through XK03 are the doorklock kits, and XK04 - XK07 are the immobilizer/remote start kits... contradictory title, but made sure it was really the XK04, just wanted t0 share.

The 555F will not work with a 2004 Expedition

555F is for older Fords. The 555S (if they still make it) would be correct for newer Fords.

The XK04 is pricier than just getting a blank Ford key and a universal box, but it should work fine for your Expedition. (You do have two good keys, right?)

As for reprogramming, I think you could do that, yes. I've used used Ford keys (from other cars) for remote start installs with no trouble.

I've re-used used keys from Fords, Toyotas, and GM.

Chrysler keys cannot be programmed to other cars.

I think 556S was the one they sold for most of the Securilock-equipped Fords...555S only worked on Tribute/Escape, Focus/Cougar, Lincoln LS/Thunderbird.

Then again the 556S is just a blank key in a universal box.

XK04 IMO is much, much better. Ford transponders are way too weak to mess with an RF bypass.
