Hi,

I've got a 95 hyundai excel and I just bought a diy central locking kit with remote to fix. Everything's done except the wiring part. Could anyone shed some light on this?

I need to know how to tap out the following wires:

Red 12V -
Black 12V +

Yellow (parking lights)
WHITE/ black (ignition)
orange (foot brake switch)

thanks so much

P/s. I know they're all at the driver's kick panel. But there are so many wires there. I need to locate the few wires on top to connect.

Ever thought of using a meter? as an example, turn the lights on, see which goes live, pump the brake, see which goes live etc etc etc.

Interesting.  I've never seen 12v (-) as a red wire and 12v (+) as a black wire.

If I'm reading this correctly then this is a DIY remote start too?

Have we been here before Megaman, or just forseen these sort of questions, I think the footbrake and ign are related to an autolock rather than an R/S but then my question about using a meter was on the mark. Why should we give them free advice, when they don't appear to want to find out for themselves. I've got about 15 DEI garments and all it took was a pencil and paper whilst I was doing the installs.

Thanks howie, I'll try to use the meter. After I find out which wires are which, do I just cut the insulation and connect the wires from the kit to it, then wrap it up again with insulation?

It's not that I don't want to find it out by myself. I just thought that they'll be some sort of color coded diagram for the car.

megaman:

no it's not a DIY remote start. It's a central locking kit (with remote) from black widow brand. The colors were given in the simple instruction diagram that came with the kit. I'm not that good with electronics and I don't want to risk stuffing the electronics of my car. But I'm willing to learn and it would be really satisfying to be able to fix it up myself. (with a little help from forums and you guys of course)

Now you've finally asked the right question, I'll give you the answers based on what has already appeared /been discussed on this sight. Search the wiring diagrammes section for your car. If your model isn't here, look at a similar or a similar from Kia. Once it gives you the required vehicle colours and locations, check to confirm. Joining cables:- you described about half. The part you missed out was the solder. also taping over. I import Scotch 33+ at the ridiculous price of $6 per reel because it properly insulates the joint and stays.

Here's the picture of the installation diagram.

Diagram

howie: here's the thing. I've been unable to find the required vehicle colors and locations. The only thing remotely similar is this site that I've found. site But I have no idea at all where's the location mentioned.

any help?

Look at "vehicle wiring" on this site  ah someone finally got me to spell it the US way, the 94 version of your vehicle is there, if the body is the same as the 95, then use the same colours subject to testing.

Great. I'm going to try it during the weekends. Just 1 last questions. Do I just connect my red wire to the CONSTANT (+) 12 volt wire? What about the other black wire as shown in the diagram?

Do I just ground it to any metal part of the car body?

Thanks

Damn. I've found all the wires except for the parking lights. Does parking lights refer to hazard lights? blinkers? or the small little lights beside the headlight?

I've tested a lot of the wires around the driver's kick panel but still unable to locate the one for the parking lights.

any help?

Hzards ARE blinkers, parking lights are the others also known (here) as sidelights. Just to confuse you, you would wire to the hazars if you were in Europe and the parking lights in the USA.
