I have a buddy's '01 Impala that the remote start is inop- the door locks option was never installed, although the lights do flash when you hit the lock or unlock buttons on the remote.  Absolutely nothing happens when you push the start button- although once it did turn on the ignition and park lights- but never did it try to crank-- Now it does nothing again.

I pulled the brain box down tonight, it has the label on  it - says  PRO 9275  which I assume is a Prostart-

I did check for power at the big plug in to the brain- both red wire are good with 12v battery- there are no clicks at all from the brain when you push the r/s button- It may be in Valet mode- but I found no red lite anywhere= there is a toggle switch and a black pushbutton switch- the toggle is set to "on" -

How do I get out of Valet mode?  is there an online owner's manual- orbetter yet an online install manual?

It has a PLDATA for a bypass- but the red light does not come on- probably because the r/s does not go into r/s mode.   Thanks for the help..

Well I did some more testing- first thing I found out is that you have to hit the start/trunk button twice within 2 sec to trigger a r/s.  Now I can at least measure all output voltages- they are all there- two ignitions, and accessory- and the yellow wire out puts to crank- and is connected properly (but not soldered- just wire wrapped) I tested all wires on the ignition switch side- so I know all the connections are working- It still bothers me that the PLDATA red lite is not on- although it is receiving the ground out while running signal, and a battery hot, and it is wired into the purple data wire ok at the ALDL connector.  I guess I need to get a install diagram for it...

But wouldn't there be a security light on the dash if PLDATA was inop?   I did try a remote start with the key in the ignition and it turned to "on" which did not crank then either.  This car has the anti grind feature- I have jumpered 12v to the start wire when in r/s mode- and it still has not cranked.

This was a functioning system at one time- just not now- so something has gone amiss.  Thanks again

Well- I got it going--   I got smart- googled PL DATA and got the install instructions and the programming instructions- I reprogrammed the unit and presto- it all works--

So now why did it lose its programming?  and will this happen again?  does it do it when battery is removed??

Good learning experience on this one--  the BCM won't allow the crank relay if it doesn't see proper Passlock 2 codes from the PL DATA

Thanks for listening to me rant on this one...

I have never used a PL DATA, but if it's of any help to you, the remote starter itself is Pursuit, made by Audiovox.

If you go to www.audiovox.com, click on Manuals, you can find the install and owner's guides there.

Their search feature doesn't work very well. You can't put any hyphens or spaces, or it won't work.

When you click on Manuals, just type in pro9275 and it should find it.

Ahhhh-- now the owner tells me the cat sat stored for over a year with a dead battery-- so that is probably how the PL DATA lost its memory- and needed to be reprogrammed....   Isn't it amazing how the details come out after you do all the grunt work!!!   I should have asked first- will not make that mistake again.....
