Just had a Viper 5701 remote starter isntalled and it's advertisted with a 2000' range which is a load of crap. Is there anyway to extend the range?

perfect placement. hmmm....i've never had a problem with range on a DEI although i have read somewhere that the "advertized" range is always clear line of sight distance. i wonder if thats where the "2000' range" comes from?

No clue but I'm less than 500 feet away from it and it wont work at times. I was wondering if hooking it into my radio antenna would be a good idea or would it cause interference?

When I have a range problems, I always stat by putting a fresh battery in the remote.

also try holding the remote to your chin, I don't know why but it seems to have always worked for me

it works slightly better when you hold the transmitter to you chin because it turns your whole body into an antenna(at least thats the theory).

ok as ckeeler said the advertised range is clear line of sight meaning the signal has to be uninterrupted. so of course the range wil e much less, because of the high frequency age we live in. lol'

You'll also want to make sure that all the excess antenna cable running from the brain to the antenna is as spread out as possible.  Having it bundled up behind the dash will reduce range as well.  When I have the antenna mounted in the center of the windshield, I usually run the cable to the right side of the windshield, then back to the left and down the A-pillar to the brain under the dash.

So is your hand not part of your body ? why would holding the rermote to your chin be any better than just holding the remote in your hand? Same theory right? your whole body would be turned to an antenna because your touching the remote.  Maybe if your push the start button with your right thumb and touch your nose with your left index finger and hold your left foot in the air and wiggle your toes, you may get an extra 15 feet of range.

And how many remote starts do not come in a complete metal cases?

This may work if you have a full metal case, but with a plastic case enclosing the remote,it isolates all of the circuitry.

Wait .... what am I talking about... I am sure that this would not even work with a metal case either.

Lol, that's a complicated procedure for an extra 15 feet of range!

I don't really understand the science behind it, but I've found that standing in the same spot, on some occasions when the remote will not work, if you hold it to your chin it starts to work.  I've also found that if you open your mouth slightly, like you're yelling at it, it gets even better!! posted_image

TO ACTUALLY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.... NO THERE IS NO WAY TO UPGRADE AND INCREASE RANGE ON THAT MODEL.....
