I've got a question for the remote starter installers out there, First some background, I installed an ultra start 1270tl in my 2004 ford diesel a few years back and I played dumb to ultrastart.com and they sent me photographs of each wire and where every connection that needed to be made was, it made the install very, very easy. Now I want to put one in a 2008 ford escape, but it looks like I have to tear apart the whole drivers side dash to get to everything so I'm getting it professionally done, my question is: when a new vehicle comes out or for that matter any vehicle, is there some place that the pros go to to get these photographs with the complete instructions that I got emailed to me or do you just find a vehicle wiring diagram and go to work no matter how long it takes to get to the right wires? I'm very curious as to how an installer can take any vehicle and put any brand of remote starter in it in just a few hours. Thanks and great website! 2004 Black Ford F-350 Superduty Crew Cab

Thanks for knowing when to have one installed for you.
We get a wiring diagram and use our Multimeter.
We rely on our experience and the experience of others (co-workers, 12volt's install bay etc)

techservices.audiovox.com (you can sign up for a free account) has wire colors, but not pictures.
There are some more expensive paid programs that have lots of nice pictures, like AstroChart, from the company that makes AstroStart remote starters.
The Escape is a little harder than your pickup, but it's not that much harder. Yes, there are a few panels to take off, and the keys have an anti-theft transponder chip in them.
But, there are only three places you need to go for all your wiring: Steering column harness (ignition wires), driver's doorsill (brake, locks, door trigger), and then a little farther back along the doorsill toward the rear of the car (parking lights).
The panel under the steering wheel pulls off (then unscrew a metal knee bolster behind it), there are just a couple of screws under the steering column shroud (and then it unsnaps), and the driver's doorsill and kick panel you could pretty easily figure out how to take off yourself.
Again, it's a little harder than your Super Duty, and you might be right to leave it to a professional, but I wouldn't let just the panel removal scare you. That part's pretty easy.
