Neighbour bought an 05 BMW 320i yesterday and immediately stopped over to see if a remote starter could be installed. I can honestly say there might be 5 beemers within a 50 mile radius of here so this is something I haven't seen. What bypasses are required on this car? Is it the same as an 04 series 3? The dealer advised him against it so he is a little gunshy on letting me put one in. And honestly I'm a little leary on messing with it but if I someone has done one with success I'd give it a go.

Dead easy assuming it's an E46. Use a 556U as set for Euro cars, see 556 instructions, use the grey VALET key in as the others will "talk" to the car and conflict with R/S. Batt, RED / blue and RED / green (I think it's RED / green any way it's the second cable with red as primary colour) Ign,light green, 2nd ign purple (called violet by everyone but me) starter GREEN/ black OR black primary, check, all at ignition lead. Brake light, GREEN/ black or blue/black, don't go to the brake switch it's data. Trunk release grey/green + (just switch aux through a relay) reverse, can't remember, it's the same colour at light bulb and in loom. These last are here in driver's floor loom, this may the other side in a US car. No I've done German spec, they are r/hand floor loom. Tach is thin black in OBD II plug. For security, door contacts RED / blue + underdash illumination, no domelight supervision needed, they come on with remote unlock, blue/red lock and white black unlock, drivers door return loom. Also controls factory alarm. Check which way round, both neg, extend lock pulse to close windows roof etc. Trunk contact is WHITE/ brown, r/hand flor loom BUT diode block the red / YELLOW pos leads to the light units, !N400 series, bar towards light otherwise alarm wil trigger on locking doors. Hood switch is I think PURPLE / green neg but you can't miss it at the swtich, plastic at the rear of engine bulhead/plenum chamber, r/hand side. We don't use side lghts on these units here we use the Hazards so the wiring is different.

howie, could you please explain more about this? How I understand 3 Series Wiring Diagram shows wrong wire (BROWN / white above the brake pedal) Where is that GREEN/ black that you are talking located and what it's feeding? Could you please explain more how to connect E46 brake light the right way?

Thx

It's CAN about 5 volts at switch, this then goes to a processor which delivers different colours to left, right and hi-level brake lights at 12volts. first and last are in left hand floor loom, r/hand in r/hand floor loom. Pick off one of these.
