I want to install heated seats into my 1998 impreza outback. They currently have a hi and lo setting, what resistance would a rotary (potentiometer/rheostat) switch have to be to vary the heating? I guess the voltage increases for more heat but I can't figure out the resistance required. Thanks in advance. Don.

Only you can answer that question because you're the one who has the switches on hand. Time to get out the good ol' DMM and read what values you have.
Not wanting to assume anything: remember that the resistors control the module which controls the voltage pulses which equal heat intensity. Don't wire a pot in series with the heating element.

On a serious note why would you want to vary the heating?
