I have a 97 Ford Ranger, just thought I would see where I can get a Reed switch. I had read some other forums about installing a Reed switch, on the gear shifter, for a manual transmission as a safety device for the remote start feature. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are units out there that can do remote start on a manual; Aladdin (sp.?) is one of them. How it works: when you turn off the vehicle and exit, it stays running until you arm your alarm. The alarm then knows the car in in neutral and the hand brake is set. The system will only remote start if the alarm is not disarmed after this sequence, and/or a door is not opened.

This is the only way I would suggest a fool-proof way to remote start a stick!

Hey me again. I understand that this might not be the most safe method the Reed switch thing, But do you think it will work I read stuff on other installer using this method. I wasn't sure if I could get/make something at radio shack etc. I didn't know if this was info that anyone would share due to safety. I just thought It would be better than using nothing. I know I crazy.

The aladdin 2000 & innotek units come in manual transmission mode from the factory. If installing in an automatic tranny vehicle, there is a jumper to cut.

I usually stop by a local alarm shop. They have them at a decent price and call them magnetic for sliding windows. www.parts-express.com also has them i think.
