hey everyone...gotta quick question....I have a 2004 toyota solara (4 cylinder) and I am wanting to switch remote start since its almost as cheap to get a new alarm and install it as it would be to get a replacement remote...My question is this: If I am switching from the 791xv to the Viper 5701, is it as simple as switching out the "brain" or is there more work involved....I am hoping to use my existing wiring and just switch brains and possibly antennas...what do you think? There's only one or two connectors that match. Basically, it's a new install.

i guess best buy was lying to me...I called them and told them what I have and told them that I wanted to install the new remote/alarm and they stated it was going to be easy to swap it out as it was just the "brain" that needed to be swapped out...what is my best bet...I am completely proficient in anything computers but am a newbie when it comes to alarm system...

To someone who is used to it: it's simple. All the signals required for the 5701 will be found in the wiring of the 791 and you'll have to change the antenna and antenna cable too.
My humble suggestion: Leave it to the pro's because the 5701 is tricky to program even for seasoned installers.

The person at Best Buy was probably unaware that DEI has just completely redesigned their remote start systems. The relays are all built into the brain (like most other modern systems) instead of a separate relay pack.
The one thing they kept mostly the same was the wire colors.
One easy (but sloppy, unreliable, and unprofessional) way to do it would be to just get yourself a whole bunch of butt connectors, cut the wires from the 791, and splice on the wires from the 5701. It's definitely not the best way, but it probably would work.

cmon now, every company has both incompetent body bags and knowledgeable professionals. The wider it spreads the larger the margin for error. Unfortunately they probably weren't lying, they may have just been misinformed.
back on topic however, what Chris said is accurate with the 5701 being a completely different installation. The simplest upgrade for you would be to the 5900 which IS indeed just as simple as an antenna and remote swap.

ok guys last question...i have a 2004 toyota solara and like I said I had a 791xv installed...they had to put in a bypass which I bought for the 791xv install and also a trunk relay so i could pop the trunk...will these work with the 5701 or will i need to buy new relays? Thanks for your help guys...
