How would I go about doing this? It seems easier to splice into the rear door sensors. Are they grounded when the doors are open? (Does this mean negative door trigger?) Thanks!

The older Mercs normally have seperate circuits for front and rear doors. The door switches just pop out, I think they are something like BROWN / Grey from memory at the rear of the front and rear switches. You will normally have to split  your input to your alarm via 2 diodes.

Hope this helps

Yes, that's correct. You have to use diodes and if your alarm "needs" groundable wires... you have to use couple of relays also :-(
