Hi ! I am getting ready to install a R/S in a 2009 Tacoma. I have one starter relay in the unit I am installing. I have a 3rd ignition output (-) on the unit, can I use this one with a relay to get my 2nd start relay ? Thanks !

only if its programable for "START" and can be changed from "IGNITION" output. otherwise you'll have to use another output to trigger your relay.

The unit has horn, hood, tach, alarm input, diesel/pager(+/-) inputs. Alarm disable(-). Can I use any of these ?   Thanks !

you need an output. do this........ you can use the positive heavy gauge starter wire to trigger a relay to power that second circuit. connect as follows:

term 85=tie a wire into the heavy purple wire from the remote start, connect to term 85

term 86=ground

term 30=12v constant(use 10ga or 12ga wire)

term 87=connect to the second starter wire in the ignition harness(use 10ga or 12ga wire)

term 87a= not used

I installed a remote starter om my 09 Tacoma today, have not installed bypass yet. Truck starts fine with key in the ignition with the remote starter but the check eng light comes on. It also comes on just using the key. And goes into drive real sluggish. What could be the problem ? Thanks !

Is your remote start hooked up to both ignition wires in the vehicle?

Yes, ignitions are hooked up. I took out the relay I had for the 2nd starter and  and hooked the 2 starts together and the tranny is fine now. But I still have cel and vss lights on. Undo battery for  a while ? Starts with R/S and key just fine but I need to get rid of the warning lights. Thanks !

Yep, I would disconnect the battery for 10 to 15 minutes.

Hi, I was having almost the same problem with the check engine light coming on when I installed my r/s in a 2009 tacoma.  I suspect my issue was with the way my starter1, starter2 and ignition1, ignition2 wires were connected.  Can you please tell me how you connected to those 4 wires (relays or direct from r/s)?  Thanks for your time.

SL2 says to connect this wire to ground while running, which wire would that be on my R/S MODULE ? Thanks!  2009 Tacoma

Built in relays for start, hooked second start wire with 1st start wire, built in relays for 2 ignitions.

In your install manual, look for a wire that provides a (-) just before remote start. The most common color used for this wire is blue. I don't know for sure on your unit though.

I have a Fortin SL2 key override module and was needing to know which wires I splice into at the column. TX, RX and keysense is the way I understand it. Do I need to hook up the negative output from RS to module also ? Thanks !

Do you have the install manual for the sl2? The plug has seven pins. Pin three is empty. Pin 4 is Rx, pin 5 is Tx. Key sense is next to the WHITE/ black wire at the cylinder. Can't remember the color though. It will test by inserting and removing the key. And yes, you will need to hook up a neg. output to the module. This is what kicks the module on before a remote start.

Do I need to hook up the positive and negative from the module as well ?
