Subject: hornet auto start every day, 476t remote
Date Posted: November 09, 2008 at 3:11 PM

Previous owner installed a Hornet alarm on my 2003 H2. It has the 476T remote - I don't know which alarm model it is. The remote is a 4 button: lock, unlock, AUX and horn(panic).

Suddenly it auto starts every day at 1:30. I looked thru many of the manuals online and it looks like the lock and horn buttons pushed once simultaneously put it in this mode to auto start every 24 hours. None of these manuals addresses how to take it out of this mode.

I read a similar post "hornet 564t random auto starts" and the solution was to push the * key on the side of remote - mine doesn't have this key. My model will remotely start (once) when the H2 when the lock & unlock buttons are simultaneously pushed.

I tried simultaneously pushing the unlock and horn button - it still auto starts. Originally the siren would activate when it would auto start on the 24 hr timer. I pushed some other combos & now my siren doesn't beep when I arm and disarm (I'd like that back too) but the siren no longer wails when it 24 hr auto starts (so that's better for my neighbors, I guess).

Can anyone get me outta this mess? I gotta go to the airport this week & I'd really rather my car didn't start while I was away! :(

umm, i can't remember off hand how to eleminate the 24hour start, i'll check it tomorow when i get to work if no one else replies, th part with the siren not sounding, with the car off check to see if the red led is on steadily, not flashing if it is on solid the alarm is in valet mode, simply find the valet switch, turn the key to ignition position turn it back off and then tap the valet button once, or you can open a door and hit the lock, aux, lock again in that exact order, post u tommorow on the timer mode.

ok - just checked
The light typically strobes when the alarm is armed. Now the light is not flashing & is not even on (but I checked and the H2 was locked). Wonder if the alarm is no longer arming?

The lock and unlock work. The lights flash twice when I unlock and once when I lock.

You were right. I was in valet mode. Last night the LED was not on (but I checked when alarm was supposed to be armed). Today, when I got in - LED was solid before I started the car. I turned it off my turning key to ign then off again & tapping valet switch (didn't know I had one - its in a sneaky spot alright). Now chirp is working to arm & disarm.

When I arm, LED is flashing in a pattern of 3 quick flashes. That's new. It always flashed on/off like once per second.

Does this mean the daily auto-start will discontinue?

i'm not sure, it's been a while since i installed that system, if it still continues, the next time it starts at 1:30 tommorow, step on the brake pedal when it does that should do the trick, i can't seem to access a manual at work.

It did auto start today - I forgot about the time change (2:30 now). Tomorrow, I'll try the brake then wait to see what happens on Wed.

pressing the brake will only stop the car that one time, it will not solve your problem. go to DEIs web site and look for a hornet alarm with that same feature and a similar keypad then look and the install manual PDF it should tell you how to turn off the feature. even though it might not be the exact same alarm as yours my guess is DEI doesn't change the way their features work very often. just try it

Stepping on the brake shut down the engine just that one time, but it still auto started again today -- just like "soundnsecurity" said above.

I have gone to Direct's website, downloaded and read thru about 20 owners manuals. The 554T model seems to address much of the stuff I have - and tells you how to enter the 24 hour timer remote start mode (press lock and horn simultaneously) -- But nowhere do any of them tell you how to disarm unless you have a * key. I don't.

Someone must know how to disarm this 24 hour remote start! Help - please. I'm about to take a hammer@myHUMMER!

have you tried calling DEI tech support? what button are you using to remote start your car normally? this should be equivalent to the * key. its very hard to help because it seems that the remote you have is not the remote that originally came with the alarm. whenever you program non stock remotes to an alarm there is the chance that the buttons can be different. it all depends on how the alarm is set up to read the remote signal.
are there any buttons on your remote that just dont seem to do anything? this is evidence that your remote might not be 100% compatible with whatever alarm is under your dash, meaning it might arm and disarm but some functions might be lost. my best advice to you is do your best to look under your dash and try to find the brain. if the installer did his job it wont be easy but if you say you know where the valet switch is just trace those wires coming from the switch straight to the brain. the model number will be on either the top or bottom cover.
as for your trip, if you want to disable the remote start temporarily try to find the hoodpin that should have been installed under the hood around the edge somewhere, it should be a kind of yellowish color but might be rusty by now but once you find it unhook the wire from the bottom. it should be a gray wire if the alarm is DEI but once you have this wire hook it to the NEGATIVE pole of the battery or any metal part of the frame. this will make the alarm think that the hood is open and will override any command to remote start. sorry i cant solve your problem but i hope this helps

The manuals are available to download in .pdf - I linked thru the www.directed.com website.

Just use the drop down menu to select what model you have.

good luck!

I have not tried calling DEI tech support. I'll try that.
My remote is a Hornet 476T, 4 button: lock, unlock, AUX, Horn(panic). See it on this page-->
https://www.al-eds.com/Directed-Electronics-476T-p17969.html?gclid=CMTBspWD8JYCFQpuGgodCye_qw

I start the car by pressing lock and unlock at the same time for a sec.    All 4 buttons have a function.

i have a hunch. how many times do the lights flash when you start the car with the remote 1 or 4 times? if they flash more than once then that means pushing the lock and unlock buttons at the same time is sending the alarm into something other than a normal remote start. i was reading a hornet manual of the hornet 563T remotestarter and it said that pushing the lock and unlock buttons together enter the timer mode but it also starts the car. also try pushing the horn/panic button twice, maybe 3 times in a row. does the car start? if it does than that is the actual remote start button. a normal remote start usually requires that you push a button twice unless the installer programmed something different. anyway please try this and let me know

Hey soundnsecurity, I saw that manual too - if I remember right, that's for the remote with the * button. But when I push lock & unlock simultaneously to do a remote start, the lights flash once then they come on solid once the car starts (on the H2 there are truck lights lining the top of the car that are on when headlamps on). This is the remote start I've been using for years and I've only just now had this 24-hr start thing going on.

Pushing the panic twice, thrice - appears to do nothing at all. When I press & hold, the alarm goes off, PANIC~.

Also I notice that when I remote-start without first turning alarm off, the alarm goes off (always has been this way). I guess this makes sense, but thought I'd mention it.

fgrant98 I tried using the lock & panic together and it seems to have reset the time it auto starts, now at 3:20p (time I tried it, day before). But it didn't stop it.

Thanks for the responses guys, any other ideas?

"Also I notice that when I remote-start without first turning alarm off, the alarm goes off (always has been this way). I guess this makes sense, but thought I'd mention it. "

ah ha, now im pretty sure that your remote starter is a completely separate device from your alarm and that the installer found a way to program one single remote to operate both. if it were an all-in-one unit the alarm wouldn't go off when you start it while armed. now seeing that this is probably the case there is really nothing i could tell you to do without actually seeing what is under your dash and how it is wired together.

the remote you have is for the alarm only, this is why there is no separate remote start button on your keypad. what most likely is happening is that when you press the lock and unlock buttons together it is just activating a extra aux channel from the alarm that send a signal to the separate remote start module that tells it to start the car. the only thing i can tell you to do is have somebody at a shop check it out and until then you can still stop it temporarily for your trip by grounding the hoodpin like i said a few posts earlier.sorry i couldn't help more

I'm not sure I agree that the alarm is separate from my remote starter. I downloaded and read several manuals and there were plenty that had the same 4 button remote and directed you to start the unit by pressing lock and unlock simultaneously.

but you're right, it doesn't make sense that the alarm goes off. I attempted a few other things (combos of buttons) and when the car started yesterday, the alarm didn't sound...   go figure! (and this time it wasn't in valet mode)

WHERE'S THE HAMMER!!!?? posted_image
