I am going to be putting a DEI starter in a 2007 silverado 4d new body style.

Anyone have the wiring diagram for this truck.

Also what modules will I need for the security and data bus interface.

This will be the first 07 I have done are there any other pitfalls to avoid on these newer models?

Thanks,

XK01 bypass module. the only thing ive noticed with them is that probably 2 out of 10 times the stupid things dont work right out of the box. whenever i have a problem with one i replace it with another and it works right off the batt. other than that its straight forward on the rest of the install.

We use the Idatalink unit and it is an easy install with it. Some units just do Passlock and need relays and resistors for the Start and Accessory wires. Others like the Idatalink units will have all the outputs for the ignition switch built right into the module making it a very easy install.

if you are going with the a DEI alarm, personally, i would go with the DEI bypass 1701G i think is the model#. and pay close attention to wire polarity if you do the install light flash is usually negative on newer chevys and i would suggest that you hide the brain behind the instrument cluster, its easy to pull with just a 7mm nut driver and maybe an 8mm too but this will make sure no thief can find it

as far as wiring diagram i can tell you from memory that the 1701G bypass should take care or most of the wires (locks, doorpin, maybe tach if you want to use it but i never do) parking lights i cant remember the wire color but it is negative and tests easily from the light switch. you should constant 12v directly from the battery with a 15A inline fuse. the wires you need for the bypass are usually included with the bypass instructions but it will control just about everything through the purple wire at the OBD2 data plug directly under the drivers side dash. on a side note the only thing about the bypass that routinely did not work was the doorpin output but you can just wire the alarm doorpin input to the wires coming from the domelight

The 1701g will NOT give you the igntion outputs, you need to wire up relays and resistors...

yeah i guess this is true but id just rather do that part myself that way i know it is right. i hate it when too many functions are dont through the bypass because thats just more things that can go wrong if the bypass goes bad. just my .02

i stock pretty much every module known to man (just to be safe)  and my module of choice for this vehicle would definately be the idata piece with the RNG-GM3 ring.... slick and easy and no comebacks....

Got done prepping a 552t & 1701g for an install in a 07 silverado NBS and once I had everything soldered and pre-wired on the bench it looks like there are only about 7 connections in the truck. Just 12v, gnd, ign, starter wire(through relay), assy and data bus.

Does this sound right?

Looks like the 1701g handles just about everything through the data bus.

just did RS in 08 and there were only about "7 wires", 12v, starter, ign, assy, data wires, brake, park lights.

Having a hard time locating the immobilizer plug.

The 1701 manual says it is a green plug with a brown or yellow wire at pin 2. I can find no such green plug, I have a black plug going into the bottom of the module around the key cylinder and it does have a brown wire in the #2 position.

Is there some place else for getting this wire.

It is a 07 NBS without oem start.

Thanks,

Ther are two plugs on the PK3 module, one has 5 pins and one has 6. You want the 5 pin plug reguardless of color....

Thanks but where exactly is the pk3 module. Is it the one that goes around the key cylinder?

Thanks again for the quick response, have it all done except this wire.

Thanks.  This one I am thinking of is a 5pin plug but only has 4 wires in with the #2 wire being brown.

This would be the wire that the keyside goes to the org/wht on the 1701g while the other side goes to the assy wire on the starter and the starter relay.

Is there any way to test this wire to make sure it is the correct one?  Just do not want to fubar my bosses truck.

Thanks for helping with all these rookie questions, I have not been installing in a couple years and this is the first of the newer trucks I have done.

that would be the plug, and yes that is how you wire it, it shouldn't mess up the truck DEI's stuff is designed with a whole bunch of fail safe's if you need the manual:

Thanks that is what I was needing to hear.

Yes I know the DEI stuff is very solid, it installed it for years with great results.  I just moved on to a different job a few years back on only do starters for people I know on occasion to make an extra buck or two.  Hopefully I can get this one finished up tomorrow as I have 2 other trucks almost identical to this one I have to get done in the next couple days.  First snow always brings a few out.

Thanks again,

Been working on putting a RS in a 07 silverado NBS.

Was having problems getting it to start, everything would turn on and be ready to start just no crank. Was getting no security lights or anything.

I was using a 1701g with a rely, with the correct resistors on the crank and accy wire both going to the bcm side of the pnk/blk wire.

I figured the immobilizer was working correctly as I was not getting any lights on the dash and it started fine with the key. So I figured that it must be a problem with the to wire with resistors in them. So I cut them and removed them both from the loop, thinking I would redo them. I then decided to try it and see if I lost accy power, but no it started up and worked just fine? The rely is still in the loop so the way I see it it is just sending 12v down the bcm side of the pnk/blk.

It now starts fine with all the correct accys on and no idiot lights on the dash staying on.

How is this working? The truck is an 07 nbs, but it does have a salvage title. It does not have many options so I do not think it would be equipped with an OE starter. Any ideas on why this is working?

Thanks,

Hello,

I am looking to get a 2-way alarm system with start on my 08 Silverado. I am going with either the Viper or the Clifford. Is this install fairly easy, or can the intall go really bad with a mistake. I was planning to take it into BestBuy, but, many people online have told me that BestBuy's installed don't know what they are doing. I'm just trying to get a feel for how hard this install is. Thanks!

Take it to a proffessional, unless you're comfortable with 12v electronics, mechanically inclined, and love to fiddle with things that blink. Yes. The install is fairly easy. No. I wouldn't trust most retail chain installers. However, I can attest, there are some awesome installers in those chains.

Ok. That sounds good. I am simply trying to get the alarm installed at a professional shop. So far, I have found a shop that seems to know what they are talking about, the price doesn't seem ourageous ($600.00 for a Clifford 50.7 2 way LCD remote w/ start).  Bestbuy can do the Viper 2 way LED remote /start for about $500.00, but like I mentioned, many people have told me that Bestbuy install procedured are usually not followed. The ship that will do the Clifford has not had the alarm I am looking for in stock for a few weeks because of a backorder problem, but I will wait another week and see if we can get that alarm in soon.

i have an 06 4dr z71 silverado 4x4,
i was hooking up a keyless entry/remote start system that i had bought at auotzone. i discovered that i would have to put a bunch of relays in to make the front doors unlock.

Does anyone know what data buss/module i need to hook up so i don't have to take my doors apart and hook up all those relays. And if so where i can get one?
Thanks

Well, there are only two shops that do DEI alarms in my area. One of the shops wants about $900 for the Viper 5901 and the other will do the Clifford 50.7 for $550, but is still out of alarm modules. I talked to the shop that will do the Clifford, and I told him that I can order the alarm online, and he agreed to install it. I am reading about this alarm, and it really does seem like an easy install. I am comfortable with electronics(installed many stereo head units), I am mechanically inclined as well, but I do not know where any of the wires are located on my truck. I am wondering if somebody would be interested in providing me with a detailed, step by step install for a 2008 silverado. I am willing to pay for it, so please let me know if you are. I would prefer it be somebody that has done the 2007-2009 NBS Silverado. I am planning on installing either the Clifford or the Viper with the 1701g bypass module. If you are interested, send me a PM along with your user ID from this forum, and I will provide you my email address. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have access to a dealer? I am pretty sure that even though you have no lights showing on the instrument cluster, the truck is still storing codes. Reading through the other posts on the new GM truck platform you will find some posts from Chris Luongo on this subject. I would get the truck back to try and get that multiplex wire hooked up properly.

Well,

I received the alarm unit and the bypass module, and I  scheduled an appointment with the installers at Bestbuy. It seems like they know what they are talking about, so I think they will do a good install. I decided not to do my own install, since DEI will not honor the warranty if it is not installed by one of their Authorized installers. Anything I should do before taking the truck in? I know it is a staight forward install, but I just want to make sure they have everything so that I don't have to postpone the install. I've been waiting for this alarm for a long time now. Thanks!

these trucks are easy, i use a blank key from howard keys and program it and place it in a astcbm(audiovox) or use a 556u only need ignition(pink),accessory,(brown) hot(heavy RED / blk at back of fuse block), ground, pk lites,(ly blue- at switch) brake(blue at switch)locks are in left side of dash or at bcm(in most trucks have yet to find one without) and door triggers are also at each side dash panel
the problem with doing it d.e.i.'s way is if 1701 fails( and they do) truck will not start with key, the 2nd accessor/start wire with resistors isnt needed i do about 2-3 newbody gms a week and have never had issue all it does is store a hidden trouble code for improper key start sequence if 2nd acc wire not used and no tech will think twice if this is found cause could be customer started truck with both keys close together

Yeah, you are right. I was thinking about that. I am going to keep a close eye on where the techs are installing the modules so I know where to find it if it does go bad. I could have installed it myself, but I didn't want to deal with warranty problems if the unit does stop working. The BestBuy Techs and any DEI installer I spoke to wanted to go with the 1701g , so I am pretty much stuck with going that route. I like the fact that only a few wires actually go into my truck. It makes me feel better about it. I don't want this new truck's wiring to get messed with too much. Thanks for your input.

Nor will they honor the warranty, if it was purchased from an un-authorized dealer. However, if you can prove purchase from an authorized dealer, you can usually slip by without the installation receipt. BestBuy will not act as the warrantor, like most dealers will. They will give you the product to RMA with the manufacturer. BestBuy warranties the installation, but not the product.

I checked with Viper before purchasing, and they stated that they would honor the warranty as long as an authorized DEI installer  was used. The company I purchased it from sells on dozens of sites, with no complaints at all. This company probably slls dozens of alarms a month, and they also carry evey other sensor from DEI. Their prices aren't all that, so I am assuming that they are getting their products from DEI or something to the like.  I purchased them through Amazon.com and the seller is Sigma Enterprises from Houston, TX. . we'll see how the install goes tomorrow.

I can only tell you, from experience, that a coversation with someone does not change the warranty clause. It's there to protect DEI and it's authorized dealers/installers. Hopefully, your authorized dealer installer will act as the warrantor for your product.

OK, not you got me nervous. I went to the website, and here is what they have under warranty:

"Following are instructions for exchanging your defective Directed product* for a replacement unit. We recommend that you first attempt to exchange defective product at the store or dealer** where you purchased it; this is usually the fastest way to get a replacement. For Directed products that were installed in your vehicle by a Directed authorized retailer, you MUST contact the installing retailer for a replacement, and it must be re-installed by professionals per stated warranty terms."

Here is the link to the entire page:  https://www.directed.com/Support/WarrantyInformation.aspx

The alarm and bypass module came in the Directed box, so as far as being in compliance with their warranty, I think I am okay. I read on this forum that internet sales are all "illegal" , but when I asked the customer service rep, they said they have lots of stores that sell DEI parts, and as long as the item was in a DEI box, and it was a reputable store, I should be okay. This store sells thousands of items each month, and all their feedback on alarms where great, so I should be okay. The alarm itself it high quality DEI stuff, so it looks good so far. Also, since I am asking Best Buy to install it, I will go back to them for any problems (according to the warranty) , so that works out pretty good. Thanks for your input.

-Al

Here is a quick test. Is the retailer you bought it from an authorized dealer? If no, then the warranty is void. If yes, then call the retailer and ask to see a copy of their dealership license. BestBuy will be of no help to you, in the event you need to make a warranty claim.

It's a toss up, as to whether or not DEI will verify the retailer, during a warranty claim. I'm just making you aware.
