Hey all.
I'm doing an early Christmas present for my brother in law. The truck is a 1989 Toyota, manual trans and putting in an AutoCommand RS/Alarm.
Now I explained the add-on DEI manual trans thing and he hated the way it works so I'm working on my own DIY method and have run into a few issues.
First is my homegrown neutral safety switch. This one isn't an issue, I just wanted to share cause it actually works fantastic. I used flexible ABS strips wrapped in wire, one for the upshift and one for the downshift. When the shifter is put in gear, the shaft presses into and flexes the strips and grounds out the wire. The end of the wire will be connected to the hood pin input, so that if the truck is in gear - no start.

Now before anyone gets all huffy - it works perfectly in every gear.
My first issue is the clutch bypass. The two wires at the clutch switch need to be shorted together to bypass it. I also need to make sure the trucks parking brake is on at the time of start. So my thought was to use the negative trigger of the parking brake to trigger a relay that would short the two wires.
Coming off the parking brake switch are two wht/blk and a green. With the ign off all show ground. With the ign on, the green is open, until you pull the brake, where it become ground. Easy right? I wired up a relay with 85 going to the green wire and 86 going to the starter + wire.
PROBLEM - with the ign on, the brake off, and the green wire metering open, the relay still activates when you turn the key to the start position. How is that possible when the wire providing the ground reference meters open and what can I do about this??
I also wanted to be able to trigger the windshield wipers using a relay triggered by the AUX output. My papers show it to be a blue/black (+) at the column. I metered it and yup it gets 12v when you flip the wiper switch.
PROBLEM - With the ign on and using a fused lead, I jumped 12v to that wire, but it pops the fuse every time. I've dared to go as far as a 15A fuse in case it's just pulling a lot of current to the wiper motor, but no dice. How can I get this to work correctly??
