Hey guys I own a 2008 dodge ram 1500 regular cab short bed six speed manual pickup. I want to add remote start and security. I have picked out the new viper 5901 and will be ordering the xk532 door lock module and rf override. as well as a 689M box to properly integrate remote start to the manual transmission. Here is my question. Is it worth it. because i have wiring diagrams and when you look this truck has everything as far as ignition accessory and starter run through resistance. Is this a terrible PITA to wire up and causes problems. Or if done properly are there no issues. I know I need a bunch of resistors and relays to do it properly. I'm just wondering has anyone done it and is it worth the trouble or is it really no trouble at all?? and is there anything else I will need other than relays, resistors, the alarm, xk532 and 689M.

If using the xk532 the only resistors you should need are for the parking lights. On some of the Chrysler trucks you can run a wire to the relay under the hood to turn them on with just a straight ground. Have a friend turn the switch for you while you listen at the fuse box. If not the resistors at the switch isnt too bad either. Programming the transponder is really the only hard part. It can be finicky at times. Just take your time, and ask questions on here if you get stuck. The manuals usually steer you clear of making mistakes, so just be sure to read all of the little notes.
I am starting to notice that most of the 08 chryslers need the GWR to turn on at the same time as ignition, so you may want to add a relay off the ignition there. I am pretty sure the new bypass kits have a note about it.

Ok so the xk532 will take care of the resistance work in the ignition system. nice i thought it only took care of the lock and factory alarm and RF override. but if it does that too then sick. Yea I programmed an xk531 a week ago for a friends older jeep grand cherokee. virtually the same as it is for this truck except that my ignition system is resistance his was not. he had the same lock interface deal tho. Well I have to order the alarm now and the bypass. is the data to data wire listed as optional in the instructions for the xk532 needed? ------------- 2008 Dodge Ram 1500

no it's not needed. w2w (wire to wire) will be just fine. and yes the xk will take care of the mux ignition, locks, factory alarm disarm, rf transponder. make sure to read the note about a 1000 ohm resistor to ground on the starter wire of the remote start-bypass. you'll get intermittent starts without it

yea i saw that. dude that's freakin sweet guys. I'm so happy to hear that it takes care of those issues. I was fine with doing the relays and all but if this is the case then hot diggity damn. you rock guys i'll make sure to make a vid of the new LC3 remote and a good review of it and possibly a DIY i appreciate the help guys.
