Craig, looking at your diagramm, notice that the door contacts are all the same colour woops just read it again, why couldn't they have just said use the dome feed? Also tach is probably in guage harness as well. The ETWIS box is probably a name for engine or gearbox management, if our poster could please tell us what wire and function on his unit connects to this, it sounds like something from Harry Potter's Fraud Anglia.

According to the wire list sheet Auto Command provided for that car it is actuall a brown wire and it is for the door trigger. Lookis like the wire chart posted above is for the later model Rios. Because the sheet I have in front of me list the 12v wire as being a Red or Black. Not a double color wire. - 12 Volt Red or Black Ignition Harness
- Starter BLACK / YELLOW Ignition Harness
- Ignition WHITE/ Blue Ignition Harness
- Accessory White Ignition Harness
- Keysense Blue Steering Cloumn
- Parking Lights (-) RED / Green Stering Column
- Door Trigger Brown ETWIS Module
- Dome Supervision GREEN/ Red Drivers Kick Panel
- Trunk/Hatch Pin White Drivers Kick Panel
- Tachometer Red or YELLOW /GREEN At Ignition Coil
- Brake Wire RED / Black Drivers Kick Panel
- Parking Brake Blue/White Drivers Kick Panel
- Horn Trigger GREEN/ Red Steering Cloumn

The above info is for 2001 Rio from the Directed website. They ist the 12volt wires as BLACK/ blue and GREEN/ red just as the Avox website does above. Chances are the info you have is wrong....

There is a different wiring for the later 2001 Rio. They changed the color of wires after 06/2001.

Audiovox is not aware of the wire color change after June, they have the same exact wire info for both years. I find it hard to believe that they used a wire harness for less than a year of production, they introduced that vehicle in 01.

The Rio wasn't out till 2001, there's no way they had a harness change half way thru the first production year. It has been the same car for years after that.....

So there we have it I think Mike M2 is spot on as usual. A couple of points:- Hyundai and Kia are the same company. Hyundai cars in the 80s were Mitsubishi based. Mitsubishi had an ETACs box on the mid-80's Galant, I know I had one at the time, having the tech back then it was always crashing, I found out how to reboot it and won a Mits dealership. Secondly most Orientals unlike here or the US keep the same systems eg locks wiring colours FOREVER, just look at how little the Corollas have varied over the decades! They've only recently gone over to CAN systems. To change colours halfway through a model cycle is unknown. Ford have done it here three times to my knowledge since '71, UK to DIn, Din to US in '95 and variations with facelifts. ie hazards on (UK) Focus going data in '01. Could I suggest our first poster simply checks every thing thoroughly like we would? Mike how many times do we get conflicting info from Directechs etc? You should all work on Peugeot/Citroen, made lousy, no secondary wiring colours, all pastel shades and these colours change every three months Regards H.

Wow so your telling me that the wiring diagram I used was not the same color of wires that was in my car? HMMM that seems odd since the colors matched up perfectly and all the wires tested out correctly. I guess being an electrician by trade and using a digital multimeter everyday I still don't know wth I am doing according to some people on the post. Well I will tell you what. How about I take some pics tomorrow of the ignition harness at the steering column and we see who knows what they are talking about. I will even do the favor of some and contact the dealer myself and see what they say about the wiring on these cars. The thing about production lines with cars is if they run out of one thing they grab the next closest thing to them and slap that in instead. I guess like the 90-93 honda accords having 2 different types of brake calipers sued on them is just something else I made up. If you don't think I know what I am talking about call your local part store on that and see if they ask you what type of calipher is in it so they know what brake pads to sell you.
