I plan to install a Compustar remote start w/o alarm on a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR with manual transmission, but have several questions regarding the wiring.

First, the wiring diagram posted on the12volt states that the constant +12V at the ignition harness is the white (25A) and black (15A) wires. My Compustar has one red +12 wire--is it best to connect to the white or black wire in the ignition harness? The Bulldog T-harness uses the black wire, but I can change this to the white wire if this is better.

Second, the Compustar install manual does not indicate a clutch bypass/detection wire--is this necessary for the Matrix, or do I not need to worry about the clutch switch for the remote start?

Thank you,
Ryan

Even though you will probably be OK with the 15A wire, I would always use the thicker, higher amperage capacity wire.

I am not familiar w/Compustar or on doing manual transmissions, but I would incoporate every possible safety feature possible.

Hi Ryan,

After some thought, I realized that you must bypass the clutch for the car to remotely start, so yes - it is important.

The car won't start unless the car thinks the clutch is depressed.

Thank you advanced,

Do you know what type of signal (+ or -) is required at the clutch switch, or if this is the correct procedure to bypass the clutch?

Please disregard my last post about the clutch bypass--I later found instructions to wire a relay to the clutch switch wires, activated by the 2nd starter wire. I have one more question regarding the Compustar, and then i should be ready for the install:

The compustar provides both + and - door trigger inputs, and the Matrix has a - door trigger wire. I realize that the brain must know when the door is opened in order to activate "reservation mode" which allows clutch bypass. The install manual is a bit vague regarding the wiring however, and shows a bracket around both + and - door trigger connections and states that this connection is required for manual transmission installs. Does anyone know if this requirement refers to both + and -, or only one of the two connections?

From the reviews, the compustar appears to be a great unit--I wish the install manual were as good!

Just connect  the starter (+) wire from the remote starter directly to the black wire at the clutch switch, no relay is needed. If your matrix has a cruise control, there will be 2 clutch switches, just be careful to connect to the right clutch switch. Testing is the key.

compustar provides (+) & (-) door trigger inputs. You only need to use (-) for matrix. Cut the (+) & taped it up.
