installing a remote start into one of these that has a smart key. I have no clue how to control the auto headlight function?

Do you mean how to make them shut off? Use a pulse after shutdown wire, add it to the drivers door pin switch. Another way is to add a relay to the autolight wire at the switch to break the wire when you use the RS.
