2003 Diamante headlights

I installed a remote starter/alarm (Ultrastart 2600) in a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante. When the remote starter times out the vehicle shuts off but the headlights stay on. If you open the door and close it the lights turn off. Anyone know if the lights will eventually turn off. My customer said that they were on for at least a half hour before he went out and opened the door to shut them off. Or would I have to find some way to fake the door trigger into thinking the door was opened and closed? There is a pulse after shutdown that could be used if need be. I also use the door trigger for the alarm so that might present a problem too. Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

The AST systems have a minor glitch. The re-arm wire does not pulse if the unit is remote started and is allowed to time out...confirmed by their tech support. Look at my post under the topic "Headlights stay on" for how to somewhat fix the problem.

Hook up a relay as follows:
86 ---- constant 12v
85 ---- blue/black (or is it blue?) wire of 550 programmed to Re-Arm
87 ---- ground
87a -- green door trigger input of alarm
30 ---- (-) door trigger of car

The re-arm wire will trigger the relay everytime the car shuts down by remote (or times out). Ground will be sent to the car door trigger, headlights will shut off because car sees a door opened. You have to "break" the door trigger input to the alarm or else the alarm would be triggered

Ok, I see the above diagram from your other post. I think the new 2600 has the ability to pulse after lock and shutdown. (at least thats what I thought I read in the install manual) It also has a factory alarm, should I completely break the door trigger itself as to not trigger the factory alarm or just the trigger input on aftermarket alarm or does it matter? Also, if left on will they just stay on until the battery drains? There is no eventual time out on the headlights?

You don't have to worry about triggering the factory alarm when the remote starter shuts down....because it would already be disarmed. Just break the door trigger input to the 2600.

Hopefully they have fixed the pulse on shutdown problem. My shop tried to turn off the lights on a Tundra using an Ultrastart 1250 with the relay I listed. They would shut off if you shut down by remote, but not if it timed out.

I don't know if the lights will stay on forever. I don't get many Mitsubishi's at my work. I know Ford's and GM will time out, but Toyota trucks will stay on forever.
