Hi all, In short, both of the remotes for my Clifford Concept 50x alarm in my '98 Honda Integra have now stopped working (at different times) immediately after reconnecting the car battery. I've not been using the car a great deal for a few months so have been removing/charging/replacing the battery every couple of weeks. Originally, as soon as I'd wired the battery back in the alarm would obviously go off so I'd have the remote in-hand at the ready to turn it off before I went completely deaf. A few weeks ago the remote I normally used failed to turn off the alarm so I disconnected the battery again while I got the spare which then worked fine. Even though the non-working remote seemed to be okay (new battery had no effect) I still assumed it was somehow faulty and intended to replace it. Last night the same thing happened with my other remote. I've since tried both remotes on it several times with no joy (lucky neighbors) so I have had to leave the battery disconnected, the car helpless in the street and me car-less. Please help, at this stage I don't even know what next steps should be or my possible options are and it is worrying me to say the least. Is there something I can do to temporarily/permanently disable the alarm, do I have to track down a specific Clifford specialist and somehow get that person and my car together ? Does anyone know if I can still get it into vallet mode at all - i.e. connect the battery and set the alarm off, dive in the car and enter the code as quick as I can.....I was assuming this wasn't possible as the manual says you either have to start the car or at least have the ignition on when entering the code, and that's surely not going to happen with the alarm going off, is it ? Thankyou very much for your time and any help you can give me. Jon.

As a Clifford specialist installer it sounds like your 50x is suffering from a general malaise that also affected the original 50, try removing the 5amp control fuse for about 20 mins after reconnecting you car battery, after which relearn the non-working remote. If this fails it's say goodbye to it because they are almost impossible to repair. I must have removed and thrown away dozens in the past couple of years.

Thanks alot for the advice Howie. I'll track down the fuse in the morning but will that also stop the alarm's siren for that 20 minutes ? Sorry, I'm just not that sure about the steps to take and what to expect. Do you know if I will be able to enter valet mode as I described in my original post...maybe I should do this before taking out the fuse ? I'm pretty prepaired to get the whole thing replaced, more concerned about being able to use my car in the immediate future or just being able to get it to a garage easily (not that anyone's pushed for time this close to Xmas or anything) Thanks again.

Yes turn it into valet mode or simply turn off alarm via the valet switch then pull fuse. OR disconnect neg battery terminal but make sure alarm is turned off first, N.B Yours is a vehicle I aways loved.

Thanks again for your time Howie, greatly appreciated. What do you mean by "or simply turn the alarm off via the valet switch", is there something else I can do other than just temporarily enter valet mode until I turn the ignition off again ? That's the only option the manual seems to give me but it sounds like I may have other options. Can I actually disable the whole thing completely/permanently myself using the valet switch or any other way ? If the answer to that is no, and your other suggestions don't work (i.e. the alarm is fit for the bin) , are my only other options to either get someone out to it or to reconnect battery and enter valet mode every time I need to start the car ? Cheers for the help. PS - yeah, I love the car too (when I can start it) and just hating the fact they're popular and mine is currently a sitting duck on my dodgy street.

Disconect, it throw it away and install a Concept 650 Mk ll, far less problems, none when you disconnect the battery etc. Where are you?

Howie, scratch that last message...managed to re-program 1 of the remotes. Only 1 button will actually do anything though but as it's the main button I can actually leave the car protected, and I guess I could actually drive it as well ! Still confused why I can't get any of the other buttons or the other remote to work (the one that was actually working most recently) but I think the manual is confusing me. To do the one that worked I selected the "Add new remote to channel 1" function via the valet switch and pressed the main button on the remote, chirped to confirm it worked. I then selected the "Add new remote to channel 2" function and pressed the main button on the other remote, nothing. Should I be selecting the "Add new remote to channel 1" again and pressing the main button on the remote not currently working to get that sorted ? The whole channel/button terminoligy in the manual is confusing me and now I've actually got one working I definitely don't want to get something else wrong ! Thanks again.

I obviously spent far too long writing that last post. I'm in Northampton and the only close-ish Clifford dealers I could find were GAP...and also found a lot of bad reviews on them. Do you know of any others ? I'm guessing disconnecting it probably isn't a job I can do myself is it, even now I'm back in control ?

The GAP are very expensive, usualy do a good job though, I contracted to them about 6 years ago. I'm off the A1 just south of the M25 so on a good day (NOT a Friday afternoon) you are about an hour away. I have a regular customer in St. Neotts, if you need any help in the future contact me through this site.
