hey, new to the forum, been using the site for a couple years though. I find that I always seem to have problems coming back to me with starter kills. I don't know why it is, but everything on any of them I've done has made sense to me. is there any common problem with this procedure? this isn't specific to any one car.

if you placed a diode across the trigger terminals then it should prevent a voltage spike and prlong the life of the relay.

well, I've just collectively had them disable the starter for no explainable reason, and it seems like they commonly activate the relays during remote start. my own car has a strange problem I can't even explain. the starter kill will disable the starter upon remote start but only when it gets cold. so long as the car is disarmed I also have no trouble starting with the key. here's how I wired mine. for reference my car is a 95 camry v6, my alarm/starter is an autopage 725. 85- status 86- ignition 87a- starter side 30- key side (not sure if I have 87a and 30 reveresed but I don't believe it should make any difference) the reason I opened up this topic is because I seem to keep running into problems almost every time a starter kill is installed. it's on my mind because I'm sitting at work and we had a problem that looked like a starter kill before it was finished and working again but it turned out after everything it was a fuse. I'd just like to know if I'm doing something wrong every time.

you've got it reversed, i've been installing starter kills for years, and have never had a problem, 87a is engine side and 30 is keyside, always. just a thought.

alright I can take care of that, but I wrote this from memory, I might have it that way. and either way it doesn't explain why it doesn't work when it's cold. when the car is warm the remote start works perfectly. mind you I'm asking in general, I'd love any help with my own car, but I keep trying to say I've had several starter kills go bad on me.

The way you've wired it you will open ie diasable the sarter circuit when remote start is engaged. Wire as follows :-neg armed output from alarm to 85, ignition to 86, starter key side to 87a and starter motor side to 83. Also wire starter output from RS to 30. Dont use 87 and diode across 85 and 86 with the band towards 86.
