installing a VALET 561r on a 2004 Toyota Camry LE

I've used this wire diagram

everything works fine besides the REMSTART.

when attempting to remstart. alarm clicks and does not try to turn over.

before metering the SECOND IGNITION wires I connected my 2nd IGN to the wrong BLK/YEL wire (which was 2nd starter). this connection when remstarting, attempted to turn over but didnt completely crank. with the key in the IGN position it turned on successfully.

question is: WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? i know that there is something wrong with my IGN wires but when i connected it, its not cranking at all.

Yes you do need to hook up all starters and ignition wires.

the reason why i asked if i need 2nd STARTER is because on all the diagrams i have found no one lists 2nd starter.

to hook that 2nd starter up am i correct by spliting the starter wire from the alarm and tapping it on to 1st and 2nd starter?

as i have stated in many threads before. the car has 2 seperate starter wires for a reason. they are each individual circuits and are not meant to be shorted or connected to become one.

many say "well i split my starter wires in two and it always works" well it works until you run into problems. if you do it, do it properly. im not saying this to you, just to those in general.

take a relay and wire it up like so with a rela harness (it will make the install easier and save time)
85 - ground when running negative output 250 - 500 mA (status output on DEI units)
86 - first start wire from remote start unit
87 - constant 12v
30 - to second start wire on car.

if you got any more quesrions feel free to ask, i did my moms 02 camry LE V6, wiring should be the same so just shout.

Tedmond is 100% correct, you must relay the second starter wire. If you don't the AM1 fuse will blow a few weeks down the road and you will be stuck. It will work at first but you will have an issue over time. Same with the ignition, you must connect both....

Better yet, instead of using the status wire to trigger the relay, use the "starter trigger" wire. This wire is purple and is located in the "4-pin satellite harness". This is the same harness as the "status" wire.

just to be clear this does not apply to my DEI VALET 561 since it is just a remote start/keyless. satellite harness relates to alarms like 791s right?

so im going to hook up the relay and hopefully wont run into anymore problems. thanks a lot for your help guys.

first remstart in 3 years and it happens to be my new boss's wifes car. he's getting this remstart for xmas. so IF THIS DOESNT WORK..no xmas gift for his wife. and no JOB FOR ME!!! lol

Tedmond, the AM1 and AM2 fuses are for the ignition switch. Usually the AM1 is in the interior fuse box and the AM2 in the outside...

I'm not familiar with the 561 but surely it has a negative starter output wire. Hard to believe there isn't one....

sorry there is one on the 561.

QUESTION NOW IS:

since:
"
85 - ground when running negative output 250 - 500 mA (status output on DEI units)
86 - first start wire from remote start unit
87 - constant 12v
30 - to second start wire on car. "

DO i connect anything to the FIRST STARTER wire on the car??

this is how it works. the unit you have already has one starter output. Connect it to the starter wire on the car.

then as i mentioned

85 - ground when running negative output 250 - 500 mA (status output on DEI units)
86 - first start wire from remote start unit
87 - constant 12v
30 - to second start wire on car. "

tap into the first starter wire and connect that wire to 86. that is what i mean when first start wire from rs unit. simply splice into this wire.

another menthod that can be used (easier would be)

85 - negative starter output from RS unit
86 - constant 12v
87 - constant 12v
30 - to second start wire on car

Stupid question additionally that no one's asked...quanx22, are you using a bypass module for the immobilizer?

Before you do anything else, put the key in the ignition switch(but do NOT turn it on) and activate the remote start. If it works, that would point toward the car having an (unbypassed) immobilizer.

dohh, chriss, that was a good question. we could be troubleshooting the wrong thing here. but its always good to wire up all ignitions and starters.
