I am preparing to install the Viper 5601 alarm, and the shop that sold it to me recommended that I get the XK06 module, even though the Viper.com website recommends the XK01, and my vehicle (2008 Silverado) does not appear in the compatibility list for the XK06. They stated that the XK01 would not support remote start, and the XK06 is required for remote starting my vehicle.

My "new" understanding is that the XK01 would include everything that the XK06 does, but also add power door locks. I believe that if the module can control the locks through the databus, that would make the installation easier as I wouldn't have to manually tap into these wires.

Is that correct? Should I exchange modules?

After doing some further research it looks like the shop was correct and the websites were wrong? My truck is equipped with GM PASSKey III+, with the "plus," and the XK01 only bypasses GM PASSKey III, without the plus.

Is that right?

I will probably just get the 1701G as it looks to do just about everything I would need...

Doing a search here will verify the "quality" of the XK-- modules. Every 4th thread is about a problem with them....

ADS-DL   & the ADS-RNG-GM3       it takes care of the MUX stuff so you dont need any extra relays or resistors......

Use the Idatalink module ADS-DLSL-GM3 c/w RNG-GM3. This takes care of the passlock and the PK3+. Doesn't require any wires to be cut which is a bonus. I quit using all the other kits when I found this one. Cutting a transponder wire scares me!
