I got a 98 civic and i'm trying to get the remote start on a viper 790 to work. I hook up the 5 remote start wire to the ign1, ign2, accor, starter, and 12+. Then i ground the neutral safety wire. I try getting it started and it wouldn't start up fully. It'll try to crank but not enough cranking. Do i need to hook up the Tach wire because i can't find the tach wire. Please help me. Thank you.

I had the same problem with my 02 Grand Am. Make sure you go through the "Tach Learning" procedure and you'll probably need to increase the crank time in the learning mode. Look in your install manual find out how to do this. If you still need help don't hesitate to contact me. Ryan.Noble@adelphia.net -------------

I would definitely hook up the tach wire, and then program your remote starter for tach. When I hooked up one in a '97 Civic, I grabbed the tach wire behind the tachometer in the dash. It was only a couple of screws, and the gauge cluster pulls out, and then I think it was the blue wire going to the tachometer. At first I didn't use tach, and the car would start maybe 2 out of every 5 tries. After I hooked up the tach, it always started. BE CAREFUL NOT TO MESS WITH THE WIRES IN THE YELLOW LOOM, I BELIEVE THOSE ARE THE AIRBAG WIRES.

You need to hook up the brake wire, because that is the wire used to let the brain know that you have pressed the brake after a remote start and lets the key operate the vehicle.

The tach wire can't get much easier on a Civic. Its between the strut tower and the firewall in a connector with a black rubber cover on it. Its not plugged into anything and its a blue wire.
You can also get it at the instrument cluster, as stated above.
