Hi all,

Brand new to the forum, but it looks like a great resource!  I bought a Hornet 740T for my old 1992 Mazda Miata.  I got this basic alarm since my Miata is all manual, with no power door locks and don't want anything fancy (or expensive).  I also got the DEI 508D motion sensor and alreadly learned how to hook it into the 740T by reading some posts on this site!  THANKS!  I've also found the wiring diagram for the 90-93 Miatas on the site as well.  I guess my reason for this post is to see if there is any further information or advice anyone may have for me.  It is my first alarm install, but I have a little knowledge of electronics and I've installed stuff like a cruse control on my Miata and it actually works!  I'm planning on keeping it real simple by using the door switch as the trigger and the ignion kill.  Other than that, I don't think I will be utilizing any other features.  Thanks in advance for any info and help!

looking at the wiring, it looks straight forward. al the wires are at the kick panel bsides the door trigger. you will need to tap into the domelight (-) and grab the ignition wire at the steering collumn. other than that your good to go.

Thanks for your response!  Hopefully, it won't be to difficult for a noob!  I believe the dome light to which you refer are the interior lights located in the dash since the Miata is a convertable.  Do I need to tap into these as well as the door switch in order to trigger the alarm?

either one should work fine, the signal at the instrument cluster or if ur going to the switches you may have to go to each switch, is ur car two or four door.

Thank you for your thoughts.  Sounds like it may be better to tap into the dome light since either door triggers them.  Great site and good advice!

Take either of these dashboard lights, use the lead that isn't 12V+ but goes to ground when you open a door, either will do. 2 things, hood and trunk switches are required, place the trunk switch in the lid, place the hood switch on an inner wing (fender) flat pice behind the headlights. DO NOT attempt to install central locking, it's a nightmare on that car.

Thanks for the tips Howie!  I'm going to try and get this project started this weekend.
