How do I know if a 2001 Taurus will have a transponder key system??? I've been told that if the car has factory keyless entry that it WILL have a transponder key...but what if I don't know it has factory keyless?
Also, if for some reason the car rejects its original keys, how do I go about reprogramming them?

They all have one, but the theft light on the dash is how you can visually verify that.
You may have to just wait a little while before the key will work, and if you relly screwed up then you need to tow it to a dealer. Dont worry about screwing it up that bad though I think it is tough to do.

I've seen the theft light on some Fords...but just recently I looked at a '02 F150 that DID have the transponder key and there was NO theft/security light on the dash. That is why I ask what other way can I tell?? I don't want to guess and try to start the car w/o the bypass module and find out that the car goes into some kind of anti-theft mode that I cannot get it out of w/o the dealer...

Not all Taurus' have the PATS system. A simple cheap way to tell if your car has the system or not, is to take a quick trip to Wal-Mart and have them cut a key for you. They may tell you that they cannot do it, cause they may think that your car has the system on it. Tell them your situation and just have them cut a regular key for you. Try the key that you get cut. If the key will start your car, then you do not have the PATS system on your car.

Has anyone seen a 2001 Taurus without a PATS? Just curious.
