that's a general question that may leave you with alot more opinions than you may want, what you should do is decide what features you would like to have for your personal use and convenience,  so that the members of the site can guide you as to which unit may be best for you, if ur looking for just a basic alarm and starter dei, compustar, audiovox, offers a wide range for you to choose from, but then again it's what ur looking for.

i got a viper 791xv in my 01 ranger, but i installed that a good while ago so you might want to look at the viper 5900. it's almost the same except it has a longer range and a few more programmable features but it is basically the same alarm. it has served me well over the years that i have had it and i have no complaints at all. oh and i added power lock actuators to my ranger through the alarm so that's pretty cool and it keeps me from locking myself out of my truck ( pop-a-lock charges too much)

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

I agree with djfearny2  the new dei's are actually manual transmission capable.  Meaning its built in and theres nothing else to purchase.  Ive done alot of them and they are very nice, just make sure when you have an issue with the remote you check your batteries, lol.

yea i just installed a Viper on my girlfriends cobalt and it wasnt too bad. Her 2 way burns through batteries tho. Yea I will be installing door lock actuators and just wiring them up to the alarm. IM thinking either the Viper 5101 or 5301. Any suggestions?
