I own a 2001 Dodge Ram that I bought used. It came with a Viper 160XV remote starter. I have had the truck for about 2 years. The battery in the remote died and I replaced it. Since then, which has been several months, it worked, then became intermittent, then ceased working all together. My question is this, do you think the problem is in the remote itself? Or the control unit?
Also, when I bought the truck used, the remote starter did not come with the blue LED or the valet switch. This makes it difficult to determine if there is something wrong since there is a way to get to trouble codes with these pieces. I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would help. Thanks.
Is there a light on the remote itself? Does it light up when the buttons are pushed? Did the buttons gradually get harder to operate? When you press the buttons, can you feel a switch clicking behind the button? Do all the buttons feel the same when you press them?
Do you have an Autozone near you? At the parts counter, they have a display with remote batteries for sale. But they also have a tester that will show if your remote is putting out signal.
All the valet switch does it momentarily short the two pins at the blue plug together. If there's any way you can do that on your own (wire, screwdriver blade, etcetera), you could still enter the programming menu.
Pretty much any kind of car alarm LED would work if you could get it to plug in.
