I had a customer call, that is wants me to install a R/S and use the factory alarm remotes to control it. Has anyone here attempted this or know of a solution? I will go to any lengths to please this customer's wishes.

  • I would like to use three remote lock/arm pulses, from the factory remotes, to activate the R/S.
  • I would like to use three remote unlock/dis-arm pulses from the factory remotes, to de-activate the R/S.

I haven't seen the vehicle yet so, I'm not sure if the factory remotes will operate, once the vehicle is started. I believe that this is the real dilemma, as the cutomer will need the factory remotes' unlock/dis-arm to enter the vehicle. I'm also not sure if the vehicle can be started while armed or if it can be dis-armed and keep the doors locked. The R/S product has a multiple-pulse input wire for activation. The customer would also like to use their old bypass. I came out of their 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I believe it's a 555C or CW. I'm not sure if that's the actual bypass model number. Those types of bypasses don't have model numbers on them. I'm also not sure those can be re-used(re-programmed). Does anyone know how to identify those parts or if they can be re-used?

Any help or knowledge on this topic, no matter how little, would be greatly appreciated.

Sometime this is a problem because once the vehicle is running, some keyless entry modules do not work. I have no idea about Chrysler products, you will have to check. Start Vehicle and see if the remotes still lock and unlock the vehicle. If they work, you should have no problems. Only thing is, you really need to use Lock Lock Lock for both start and kill functions. They are going to forget to lock doors back after they kill the vehicle. Most remote start modules (if not all) use the same wire for start and kill. So you have to use only one, lock is the safer route.

Thank you for that. I completely forgot about it.

Does anyone else have experience with Chrysler factory alarm operation.

It'll definitely be the same sequence to shut down the remote starter, as it will be to activate it. Lock Lock Lock, or whatever you want.

Chrysler remotes work while the car's running for locks and trunk. Panic will not work while the car is running.

The 555C is simply a relay along with the chip from inside a Chrysler Sentry Key. Sentry Keys cannot be reprogrammed to other cars. You will not be able to reuse the 555C; you'll need to get another one.

If the customer doesn't believe you, I think it actually says so in the instructions for the product.

Chris Luongo, you beat me to it.

I don't think the 555C's instructions say that explicitly but the PKU-CH and other bypasses as well as Chrysler's service literature do state that the transponder is permanently modified during the programming process.

I always liked doing 561R's or equivalent in a situation like that since they have the (+) activation wire you can connect directly to the lock motor lead.

I want to thank all of you for your advice and knowledge!

I have one more concern, if you will.

  • While armed, does the factory alarm trigger, when remote started? If so, is there a way to dis-arm without unlocking the doors?

Thank you very much for the reply, robertsc. To reiterate, when the vehicle sees a valid key and ignition signal, it will dis-arm the factory alarm and leave the doors locked? Will the key-sense need to be activated, as well?

Thank you so much everyone!

Now I need to get the customer a new 555CW, for R/S using the factory remotes.

You may need to get a 556CW, i'm not sure the 555CW will work on that car.

Every once in a while i will do a RS in Chryslers and the factory alarm will honk the horn one time between the RS coming on and the alarm turning off. My own Sebring does this even and i have been too lazy to fix it :) If it does you will need to connect the disarm wire at the BCM...

Open the car's driver's side window.

Close trunk and all doors, lock with factory remote, leave car alone for at least 30 seconds.

Reach in through the open window, insert key, start car. Then you'll know for sure if the factory alarm automatically disarms or not.

TIP: Even if it has a factory alarm, and you don't want to hook up disarm, just tell the customer they have to hit Unlock, Lock, Lock, Lock to start the car.

They'll never have to know why, but they'll be effectively disarming the factory alarm for you. Since it takes 30 seconds to arm, it'll never get a chance to re-arm before the remote start process begins.

Thanks again Mike M2 and Chris Luongo! Mike M2, could you expand further why this is happening?
