I managed to get myself confused with too much information.

Looking for a tach on a 2004 Dodge Ram DIESEL.

DEI Wiring "Tachometer dk. blue/gray   ac   PCM, orange plug, pin 34
Notes: The PCM is on the passenger side firewall. On diesel models the tach wire is at the ECM on the lower driver side of the engine, 60 pin plug, pin 24"

So I'm assuming that the blue/gray is still what I'm after only the location changes from the PCM to the ECM on the engine correct?

I was trying to figure out which pin is 24 but there are two 60 pin plugs down there and identifying what is going on down there is very hard.

Am I looking in the first 60 pin plug towards the radiator? or the 2nd 60pin plug closer to the firewall?

I got that off my wiring information for my 05 and they should be the same. I know for me, it was easier to get under the truck to access the wire. I removed the cover from the top as usual and crawled under the truck. It was easy to get too under there.

extracted the need to know info from his post. that help?

thanks for the info,

I'll take a look today and see if I can't locate it. At least I have 1 less plug to look at posted_image

If memory serves me....when looking over the truck into the engine compartment on the driver side, DOWN to the ECM, there was a black cover I *think* that snaps on & off??  When I removed it, then went under the truck, it was easier to get too......

I finally got a chance to follow up on this and managed to get a real good look the wires.

I found something that looked like a blue/gray and connected my tach wire.

The alarm has a procedure for tach wire learning, and after following the steps it looks like things check out.

Now my problem is that the truck will crank but not start up.

I have the white wire from the compustar connected to the accessory (dark blue), then I have some relays for 2nd and 3rd ignition as well as a relay for 2nd accessory, but it still looks like something isn't being powered up when needed.

According to the DEI wiring guide I need the following from the wiring harness:

Dark Blue
Pink w Green
Pink w Yellow (14 awg)
Pink w Yellow (16 awg)

What am I missing?

What color is the head of the key that starts the truck ? If it's GRAY, you need a bypass module for the Sentry system. If its black , then check to make sure that you have the ACC outputs going to the ACC wires on the truck and same for the IGN wires. If the timing on the ACC and the IGN wires are not correct, the remote starter will only give a 1/2 crank and fail to start.

I do have the gray sentry key but for testing purposes I have the key stuck to the ignition cylinder via tape, so it's not the security.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by having the ACC outputs going to the ACC wires.

I have everything wired up according to the DEI wiring info, so....what am I looking for?

ACC = Accessory

if you read my post you'll notice I said I have everything hooked up as per the DEI wiring...so that obviously includes the ACC as well as IGN

I read your post very clearly. I'm not the one who stated he did not understand the meaning. Were you asking for a further explanation of how to connect the ACC wires? LOL!

I'm not sure if you're trying to be funny or don't understand what I'm asking, but I'll try to explain it better.

I have all the necessary wires hooked up from the alarm to the wiring harness including 2 extra accessory and 1 extra ignition via relays.

According to all the wiring info I've seen I have all the necessary wires hooked up AND the truck will crank just not start. What am I missing?

The only wire that I don't have hooked up on the ignition is a 10 awg Yellow/pink which is supposedly not needed for remote start.
