Just put in a DEI Sidewinder 6500 ESP alarm, with, keyless, remote start, starter kill, all the goodies...
It went into a '99 Chevy Malibu, automatic, with a four cylinder, NO PASSLOCK!! All works fine, except, now whne you start it with the key, it'll run for about 5 seconds then shut off. If you flip the key back and forth ( off run, off run, off run ) about 5 times...it's start and run fine. As soon as you shut it off...you gotta do the process again. I've looked, seen no previously installed Passlock bypass devices, and checked the keys, they are you classic Home Depot mades keys, all metal, no rubber or plastic on them anywhere...this verified there was no passlock on it...I've tries unplugging the brain...and I get the same problem....Any Ideas?????

Notes:
NOTE: This vehicle has the passlock II immobilizer system that, when adding a remote start, must be interfaced with. Use DEI part 555t or 555L
.  *1 To access the ignition harness remove the radio (without unplugging it) or the panel just above the radio.  *2 On the 4 cylinder the tach wire is white at the ignition coil. For the 6 cylinder use PURPLE / white at the coil pack located on the top rear of the motor.  *3 The lt. GREEN/ black is located in the drivers kick and catches only the drivers door. The lt. blue is located in the harness coming from the drivers running board going under the drivers seat and it catches all other doors. Use both door trigger wires and diode isolate each.

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.

Guys...if this car has Passlock...I have no keys to program the 555L with..all the keys are solid metal...no rubber at the tips..Plus I had a local chevy dealership ( where one of my friends work at ) run the VIN...they said no passlock installed...but yet the keyswitch has passlock wires?!?!?! but yet the problems keep adding up... here's the latest.....I unhooked the remote start relay assembly and the starter kill relay...all worked fine. Hooked it all back up, not the starter starts cranking in the ACC position, and won't stop...unhook all of it, still have a problem...I'm about to get drunk and go at it...since it's my friends car, and I ain't getting any $$$ guess I'll try the drunk method..either that or take it all apart and dissect it...
BTW: thanks for the wiring diagram...so for that's the third I've seen...

also, can soemone explain this..here's what I got at the switch with my meter..

RED = 12V+ ( key in off position )
Brown = 12v+ ( key in the Acc. (position loses power in the start position. Acts like an Acc. line.)
Green = 12V+ ( key in Acc, Run, And Start )
Pink = 12V+ ( in the Run position, and Start )
Orange = 12V+ ( in run position only..shuts off during crank cycle. I figured out it was the HVAC )
( these are all 10 awg wires )

now there are two other wires in the key swithc harnesses, which are about 18 or 20 awg. Black and white, and a green and black. I figured the BLACK/ white is that d@mn annoying buzzer, and the other one I assume is dome light control. Than coming out of the Key Cylinder, is also the three passlock wires..but as I said, Chevy told me that this particular vehicl did not have the passlock option installed....and that for cost effectiveness, all the key cylinders are produced with the passlock harness....I don't know if I should believe it or not...

Can someone shed some light on this for me....PLEASE!
and also on the side...how many other installers hate doing GM's?? I talked to a few around here today, and they all said, GM is one of the most annoying vehicles out there just wat to know if that's a norm, or just an opinion.

The keys for passlock are nothing special they look like they just came from home depot if you take off the rubber. The passlock colors are ethier yellow or ORANGE / black. When the car dosent start is there anything on the insturment panel come on?

I did a 2000 Buick LeSabre that every wiring data wiring said that it had Passkey III system in it and when I went to install it, the wires were all there but not plugged into any module ? I proceeded to isntall the RS and when finished, I remote started it and it worked fine ?? As far as your problem goes, it sounds to me like you may have a faulty ignition switch harness. If you need to toggle the switch to engage the starter and have it continue to run. Here is what I have for the clors you stated:

  • RED = 12 volt Constant
  • Brown = 3rd IGN
  • Green = 2nd IGN
  • Pink = Primary IGN
  • Orange = HVAC
  • Yellow = Starter

Make sure you have the right green wire. There is two in the harneess that will test right but only one is the true wire, the larger gauge one is the right one.

Alright...The Drunk method worked..I got pissed and traced it all down...Brown came out to be an ACCESSORY wire...I cut it, and no radio, and stuff like that...Green and IGNITION wire..I cut it, and the car would crank but wouldn't start. Pink IGNITION 2. Orange HVAC, Yellow Starter. And of course red CONSTANT. Than you got the wires for domelight control and that annoying buzzer when you leave your keys in the ignition. As far as the starter cranking in ignition one or Acc position...it was something very simple....bad heatshrinking and taping job on my part...traced it, saw it, fixed it. Now let me say this..I think I got one of those messed up cars..as far as the wiring goes...here's why..none of the codes I got matched up...excpet for the constant. Heck even the brake wires were wrong..I was told white by three sources, got down to the brake pedal..THERE WAS NO WHITE WIRE. and the door triggers...Lt. Blu and whatever...thery weren't it either..now another friend of mine has a Malibu same year,, engine, etc. He to has a Sidewinder 6500 ESP..I checked all the connections tonight, when he came over to help me...and guess what, he has a White wire on the brake switch, his door triggers, match up, all that good stuff. SO I guess this one Malibu, was the WHACKED OUT ONE. OH well, I have one problem left...I can't get the Alarm to enter Program mode. HAven't been able to since I got it put in. I knwo the switch is good since it will put the alarm into Valet mode. Here's what I do. I open the door. Turn the ignition on than off. than within 2 seconds press and hold the Valet switch. I held it for a minute tonight, and still didn't get that darn thing to chirp. and I tried multiple times...any ideas...

Oh and no Magicone. All is fine, no Theft system lights, nothing. it just keeps trying for the three times...Plus my problem was WHEN I USED THE KEY NOT THE REMOTE START. my problem with the remote start now is a simplke one...I need to increase the crank time from 0.6 seconds up to atleast 1 or 2 seconds..it takes that long with the key. I just can't get the blasted alarm to go into program mode...

Oh and like I said...The brown wire which everythign seems to say is the Primary Ignition wire. Loses all Power During the Crank cycle. Now, as I said before I'm a little drunk, so I don't mean to sound like an @ss. But from what I was told, and my experience. The Primary igntion, is such things as your Fuel pump, etc. Which needs to stay on during the Cranking Cycle for the engine to start.

So that is how I drew my conclusion as to which wiire is the Primary ignition. Since the Green kept juice through all key positions except for off, I concluded that was the Primary ignition. And that since the Brown wire lost it's Juice during the Cranking Cycle it was the Accessory wire. ( as well as the Drunk idea of cut the wires see if it still works..posted_image ) Pink lost power during the Crank cycle. but was only getting juice with the key in the run position. Also typical of Second Ignition. Red, Juice all times, constant. Yellow Starter.
