I currently have a Python 871XP alarm in my 2008 Honda Civic. I am considering upgrading to a Viper 5901. My question is will it simply mean switching out the brain unit and the antenna or will the alarm connectors that are currently wired into the vehicle work for the 5901 or will I need to resolder in the new ones that come with the 5901?

Is not just a simple swap most of is a new system all harness is different, you will still be able to use the main 12 pin harness, antenna is different cable, you couls still use the valet switch as well as the led. know the those are now built into the new antenna, all and all I would just start from scrtach, remove the system completlly and reinstall the new system. There is also no relay pack , relays are built in to the brain.

I have the same question but I have a 791xv installed in my 2005 Chevy Silverado and my installer is telling me all we have to do is switch the brain out.I would rather not but it is a friend of mine and he is installing it for free so I dont really want to complain but if it cant be done then it cant be done.Also I have the 457g bypass with the old alarm is this the bypass I would use for the 5901 or do I have to bnuy a new one?

IMHO, a swap-out in both the above situations is fine. Probably, cut and re-soldering of the R/S outputs is all that will be required.
