I have an arctic start AR1WAMR unit which was installed in my 2004 Ford Ranger maybe 3 years ago. It worked great for a long time but I was under the dash and moved the key that the installer had rigged up under there with a wire wrapped around it. Since then it's never worked. It does lock/unlock but the started function is gone. Any suggestion on what I could do to fix it?

undo the wire wrapping and try to rewrap it again tightly and see if it works again after that. if not, scrap that setup and get a bypass for it.

You could try to reposition the key but my suggestion would be to get rid of the 'rig' that is there now and use a data based bypass. Something like the PKFM. ------------- Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Well, I even tried placing a spare key in the ignition while I tried the remote start. that didn't work... should it have?

Yes, that should have worked. A good key in the ignition should override any problem with that other key wrapped with wire.
Does the remote start attempt to start?
If I'm not mistaken, Arctic Start is just a rebadged Compustar. When Compustar units are in valet mode, the keyless works, but not the remote start.
Look on the back of the remote, at the little pictures. I think there are two buttons you press at once to get out of valet mode.
If any doubts, use the search feature on this forum, but search for Compustar valet mode, as you're more likely to find it that way.

Wow, I messed around with it a little, the valet mode like you said and now I have it working but only with a spare key in the ignition. The one that was wrapped with the wire around it under the dash to bypass the PATS system isn't done up right. I guess I can just mess with it till it works or just put it back together and stick a spare key in it at night. Thanks!!!
