I am installing an Avital/DEI brand remote start on an 02 dodge ram 1500. I have repaired an install once before with help from you guys; however, I have not done a full install before. I have a lot of experience installing audio and am mechanically inclined.
I found the wiring diagrams and have read the install manual from Avital, my questions are as follows:
1. Does this alarm install without the use of relays? (The box did not include relays as my viper 550 did)
2. I was told by a few other people to just use wire T taps to pull power from the wires in the OEM harness. Is this ok to do? If not, do I need to hard-wire (solder) each connection?
3. All I want to install are the basics, Remote start and keyless entry. I have to install the after market door lock actuators for this as my truck is manual. Will I need to install diodes? If so which diodes will I need?
4. What all conections are necessary to make the features I want work? I.E, do I need to connect every wire? I have located all the heavy gauge wires, but not some like the activation input or channel 2 output etc.
5. The wiring diagrams I found on the site suggested for the accessory positive wire to be connected to (2) wires in the truck (both green & orange). Do i need to do anything special there to connect the wires both to one. Rather, will the connection cause any interference with the OEM workings of the vehicle. Nothing will stay on etc?
I know these probably sound like ignorant questions, but my searches have not answered my questions and my truck is currently disabled until I finish the install.
If anyone has a list of what all connections are necessary on my truck that would be perfect. If I forgot to mention any pertinent information, please feel free to point it out.
Again, I greatly appreciate any help.
