Hi, I just barely signed up to these forums. Thank you for welcoming me to your community. Now to the 12volt questions!

I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with a Hornet alarm/remote start system. I am currently planning on upgrading this system to a Viper 5900 or 5901. My question would be would I just match wire with wire? or would I have to basically start from scratch?

if you go with the 5900 it should be basically the same install, the 5901 would be alot different.

Does it matter that my current alarm system is 6yrs old?

not really, all you can do seeing that an alarm and remote start is already present, just take your new starter and connect wire for wire, as the alarm is six years old if the contact points on the wires aren't soldered then remove them completely and take the new wires directly to the contacts, and solder, verify with a meter you're not sure, if the old contacts are soldered then you can reheat the points remove the wire and connect at a fresh point, just some thoughts, hope it helps

Thanks for the help and info. Guess it's time for a new alarm unit!
