I recently purchased a used 99 subaru legacy outback with factory Alpine keyless/alarm and a Dei Avital 4000 remote start already installed. The door locks were never incorporated to work with the Avital RS, therefore I've been using two remotes...hate it. I know it may not be neccessary, but to be safe and not overload the ouputs on the Avital, I ordered a 451m after research on door lock types (I have 3-wire negative, type B...tested at switch and kick panel) and just have a couple of questions.

1) The Avital has two negative pulse outputs on a 3-pin harness, blue and green. The 451m has a ribbon cable that will plug into the Avital unit with the same blue and green outputs but I'm not sure what to do with the red wire that is also on the 3-pin harness. Leave it, cut and cap it, or connect to ground or 12v? 

PURPLE / purpleblk w/fuse= GROUND

grnblk= lock (to subaru, wht/red-)

blueblk= unlock (to subaru, wht-)

brwnblk + whtblk= not used?

3 pin harness to Avital unit (red wire=?)

Would this be correct? (fill in ?'s if needed)

2) I have to disarm the subaru "factory" Alpine alarm/keyless with the oem remote before remote start. Would this be taken care of if I connect the disarm wire from the Avital to the subaru disarm? I've read, after searching the forums, that the subie factory alarms are picky about the disarm...must use oem remote unlock (key in door and/or ignition doesn't disarm...I tried). I know one way around this would be to put the alarm into valet and just use the keyless (as I've been doing lately) but it would be nice to have the added security. 

3) The installer ran the tach wire across the engine bay in a real shoddy manner. If I were to temporarily disconnect and re-route it, would the tach signal have to be re-learned?

Sorry for the long post, I've been searching the12volt for the past two weeks, these are the only things I was unsure of. Thanks to all in advance!

1) what you're doing there doesn't make much sense, no offence, but the power locking harness that came with the avital unit would've done the same job as the 451m, just take the green and blue wires straight to the two wires you were going to connect the grn/blk + blu/blk, these wires will be triggering factory locking relays, so no need to worry about frying the output of the unit

2) not too sure about the factory disarm part, someone else might chip in there.

3) re- run the wire with the engine off and you shouldn't have to relearn the tach routine.

Thanks t+t. No offense taken, I installed many stereos/amplifiers, just never dabbled in auto security. I just like to double and triple check, besides, the 451m only cost me $5...no big deal.

I have the lock/unlock buttoned up, now just the disarm/rearm issue. I have the factory Alpine system in valet for the time being until someone who has successfully done it can chime in on that...

Guess I'll re-route the tach wire now...

Why not just remove the Alpine system there's no way it would be "factory"  by the way, and sub the Avital, wired at the same points, also t&t as usual is quite correct in what he says

Sorry, just getting my brain together, remove the Avital and add a DEI add on R/S which can be triggered by an aux from the Alpine, = 1 set of remotes. You will probably have to disable any sensors via a relay during remote start.

I would rather not remove the Alpine, I'm not that experienced to tie in ALL of the wiring to the Avital, but I could probably find/connect the arm/disarm if thats all that is needed, with a little guidance. The way it sits now with the Alpine in valet, I'm down to one Avital remote and I can R/S with the doors locked...just no horn honking if someone smashes my window and opens the doorposted_image

Forgot to mention Howie, the Avital is an add on R/S (no option to use the Alpine remote), if I'm not mistaken...theres no siren output or alarm function, that's another reason why I'd like to keep the arm/disarm of the Alpine (plus it wouldn't cost any extra $$ for a new alarm unit).

T+T, read your post before your edit...the door locks and tach wire are all set now thanks to your input.
About the valet mode...when the Alpine was armed I could not R/S without unlocking(disarming) from its remote, the "alarm" (subaru horn) would sound when attempting to R/S. This led me to believe the disarm/rearm wires from the Avital were not connected and after looking under the dash found they were not. This is the reason why I now have it in valet, to operate the door locks with the Avital remote, and R/S with doors locked without triggering the Alpine alarm, which is working well for the time being.

All I want to do now is connect the disarm and rearm outputs from the Avital to the Alpine, if possible. Sorry if I'm being redundant...please don't flame the noobposted_image

the avital add on will have a negative trigger input to activate the r/s, connect this wire to an auxillary channel from your alpine alarm,(it's normally WHITE/ blue on dei r/s add ons), i could be wrong but, since the alpine is aftermarket i don't think there would be any arm/disarm wires to connect to, you'll just have to do it manually,

Update:
I found the "Subaru security unit" tucked behind the radio. There isn't any "Alpine" brandng on it...but I guess its made by them for Subaru. There's also a sensitivity adjustment on it, but I'm not going to mess with that (yes, the shock sensor does work...tried it while armed)

Anyway, how would I test for a disarm wire?

Just disconect it and see if the car still starts,  if so throw it away.

I know the vehicle will start and function properly without it (learned on Subaru forum) but I don't want to disconnect it...I want to use it as my "alarm" since it does work well when not in valet.
