I am putting in a remote start on the 98 dodge avenger and need to know what bypass module I can buy to get around the factory security system.  I am installing a python 1400xp.  This car had another remote start in before and was never installed correctly.  The accessoris weren't hooked up and when ever I locked the doors with anything besides the aftermarket remote the alarm went off when I unlocked the doors and got back in the car.  This is what I am trying to avoid.  From what I have been able to find is that it is controlled by a transponder??  Thanks

you shouldn't  need a bypass

So the 1400xp will take care of the disabling of the alarm no matter how the doors are locked?

  • You don't. Bypasses are for anti-theft,  transponder, and other types of overides.

  • You assume.

  • Without your original R/S make and model, it would be difficult to determine the abilities.

  • That is in-correct.

  • If it's integrated properly, yes.

Ok so are there any suggestions for a proper integration?  I am curious about the preexisting R/S though and since I will have to remove it to install the new one I will post some info.  Thanks

Auto Command 29936 is the previous R/S

Ok, so I started the install and ofcoarse I ran into a couple of questions.

1:  Blue second unlock wire.  There isn't any clear definition where this gets connected. ??just give a definition of what it does.  Any one able to help?

2: WHITE/ blue (-) remote start activation input.  This as well give a good definition of what it does but only shows a picture of a button with one wire on one connection and the other ot ground.  Now I have similiar looking button in the pack but it has a connection on it that hooks to the brain. (valet program switch)

3: orange (-) ground-when-armed-output.    Do I need to hook this up some where?

4: GREEN / WHITE factory rearm output.  Ok the wiring diagram tells me about the disarm wire (

Factory DisarmLight GREEN/ Orange Driver's Door Boot or GREEN / WHITE Driver's Kick Panel
but nothing about the arming wire.

sorry for the questions but the instructions are not as clear as I would like.  Thanks

1. Used for progressive unlock feature.

2. Used for remote start activation feature, by pulsed input.

3. Used for starter-kill or anti-grind feature.

4. More information will be needed, regarding how the factory alarm can be armed(ie. key-lock pulse, factory arming wire).

Hey Loneranger - Thanks

1. so if I just want the doors unlocked with one button press I don't need it?

2. If I am only using the remote fob I don't need it?

3. No starter kill or anti-grind so I don't need it?

4. arms automatically with a door lock by manual or remote.

1. No and all doors will unlock at once, with no progressive unlock.

2. No and using the R/S remotes, not the factory K/E remotes.

3. No and anti-grind(PURPLE and GREEN - XCRS) is built-in.

4. By manual, do you mean physically operating the door-lock switch or driver's key-cylinder?

  • So you can sit in the car, after removing ignition key and opening then closing the driver's door, and use the interior lock switch to arm the factory security system? If yes, then no arming wire is need.

4. The factory security system will arm, when you lock the doors with the aftermarket R/S remotes.

  • When you exit the vehicle and either manually lock the door with the key or use the factory remotes, the factory security system arms? If yes, then the arming wire must be located.

4. This can be found coming from the driver's door or at the factory security system module, as well as other locations.

It appears that I have option #2.  I currently don't have anything connected from the R/S to the door alarm enable.  When I use the R/S remote to lock the doors when the drivers door is open the security system will arm.  If I lock the doors after I close the drivers door it will not.

Other then that everything else is working great.  Thanks

Ok so one more thing came up.  I have been working on the car and for some reason the horn honk stopped working.  I checked my connections and even re connected and tested with jumpers to make sure the horn still works.  But when I use the remote it doesn't.  It is possible there is a setting in the brain that may have changed when I disconnected the battery?
