Hello

New to the site and I hope I can find some answers here. I purchased a Autostart remote starter  5 button  Model AS-2775 from circuit city cheap since they are closing up. I have the wiring diagram for my 04 dodge ram hemi and I am a electrician by trade so I feel that I should be able to install the unit myself. But what I do not know is:

1) Where would I mount the unit. 2) Where would I mount the Antenna. 3) Are the wiring hookups in series or parallel with the truck wiring. 4) Why is there a RS- 232 port on the back.

I called the  manufacture and since I was not a dealer or installer they would not give any tech support.

Thanks marc

1. In the vehicle.

2. On the vehicle.

3. Depends.

4. For communication.

Thanks loneranger  for the help.

RTM!? If the manual had the the information I was asking for I guess I would not be on this site asking for the information.

Please if nobody can help then I would ask for no smart--- replies. I visit several web fourms and I offer what help is needed. If I do not have a useful answer I do not reply.

This seems to be a good site for info, I hope I am right.

Mount the brain:   High up above the parking brake pedal, are a number of thick wiring harnesses, as well as a heavy aluminum brace with a hole in it.

I use a combination of that hole in the metal, along with the factory harnesses, to zip-tie the brain in place. As long as it won't rattle, fall down, or get wet, you're fine.

Antenna: Stick onto the inside of the windshield glass. Hopefully the manual might give you some idea of whether it should be horizontal or vertical. If the manual doesn't say anything, you might have to put it in one spot temporarily and see which gives you better range over time.

RS232: You can plug in databus and immobilizer bypass modules from Fortin (ifar.ca) and ADS (idatalink.com). If you're curious.....go to either of those sites, look up a module for, say, a 2003 Tahoe, and you'll notice that the RS232 port can save a lot of time.

However, unless your Ram has the gray Sentry Key, I don't think they make any modules for your truck that would save you much time.

3. Wiring: In parallel pretty much always, unless you hook up a anti-theft starter-kill feature.

Many installers disagree about which connection methods are acceptable: Strip, wrap, and tape.....strip, wrap, solder, and tape......or use crimp-on connectors like Scotchlocks or T-taps.

Regardless, if you're an electrician, you already know how to make a good, reliable connection. Just keep in mind that wire nuts don't work well in cars, because of vibration.

But yes, generally speaking, you want to just splice onto the factory wire without cutting it in half. That way, even if your connection fails and your wire falls off, the car will still function normally.

Sort of ironic this is lonerangers sig...."Ideal - cmon dude, add to topics in a useful manner, not stuff that is obvious." Seems he's breaking his own rules. With the autostart stuff, i usually mount the antenna in the drivers corner of the windshield. Antenna facing down.
