If I install one of the newer DEI Responder LE/LC systems like the Viper 5901 or Clifford 50.7x into a 2007 Civic using a CAN module like the CANMAX400DEI or an iDatalink/Fortin unit to take care of door trigger/door lock and unlock/trunk pop/immobilizer, should I also tap into one of the coils/injectors to get tach signal and also wire the factory lock/unlock wires so the car can be locked during remote starts to the interface in D2D mode?

Also, can you really control an aftermarket alarm with the OEM remotes with one of these interfaces?

Shouldn't think that vehicle requires a CAN box, it's easier to hard wire.  Just remember to by-pass the transponder.
Tach is on a blue wire ending in a plug strapped to the under hood loom adjacent to right hand strut.

We always use the Idatalink module and wire the door locks and OEM alarm control via hardwire at the door loom entering into the car. It's easy to get to and only takes a few extra minutes.

Howie - It's a US/Japan market FA1/FG1 I'm working on. IIRC, the Euro Civics are totally different, the UK Civic Si was sold here for a few years.

Velocity - I've read over at the iDatalink forums that their modules aren't fully D2D compatible with any of DEI's offerings. And when you say hardwire, does that mean hardwire to the brain or hardwire to the module?

Yes that's the point,  since 2001 the electrics were almost identical*  and there is not enought CAN content to warrant the cost as Velocity and I both agree it's easier to hardwire. *I agree the bodyshells are now different, the interiors are vastly different but the only real diference is the transponder, same French manufacturer for both but the North American by-passes don't work on Euro cars. The pre 2000 5 door UK/French built version had the same running gear,  BUT it was an inch wider, diff. body shell and completely different interior even down to the locking system. 2001/5 were essentially the same but you never got the R-type, post 2005s are as above. Don't lecture me on Honda shapes, I always win at trivial pursuits.posted_image
