Hi all,
Just purchased the Python 1400XP remote starter from CC closing sale. Anyhow, I would like to install this on my wife's 1996 Chevy Caprice. I know that I will need to purchase the BYPASSKIT Immobilizer PLJX. I was wondering if there is anything else that I would need to purchase to make use of the trunk release and door locks. The car has electric door locks and of course a trunk release from within the glove box. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You will need one additional relay for the trunk release, and one relay for dome supervision (if you want to hook it up).
Did you buy the PLJX yet? If you did not, it is cheap enough to get the proper value resistor and a relay to bypass the VATS during remote start. The PLJX is a reliable piece and makes it a little easier on installation if you are not comfortable with resistors. GM used 15 resistance values on VATS and most companies offer a 'package' of the 15 values that you can purchase. Heck, I bought a 1/2 dozen Prestige 686Ts a while back and they came with the resistor packs in the box.
On most VATS cars I discuss the option of a permanent bypass with the vehicle owner. Those key cylinder's are known to have problems and it can be an expensive repair. The contacts stop making a good connection with the pellet in the key over time, leading to a no-start condition. If they are interested in a permanent bypass I just solder the proper value resistor to the vehicle side of the VATS wires.
Your 1400XP, although not an alarm has 'security' features that include a starter kill option as well as a horn honk if it sees ignition without being unlocked first. This would retain a level of anti-theft for the vehicle.
------------- Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.

Hi Twelvoltz,
I already did purchase the PLJX so I'm just going to stick with that. I've had several cars in the past with the VATS system and never ran into trouble (Knock on wood).
Just out of curiosity, why would I need a relay to bypass the VATS. I though all was needed is the proper resistor value and locate orange wire running down the steering column, cut it and connect the "resistor pack" to the two wires away from the steering column.
Thanks for the info and hope I can continue counting on you or others with any other question I may have.

A relay is needed to enable and dis-able the bypass, when using resistors. ------------- Ideal - cmon dude, add to topics in a useful manner, not stuff that is obvious.
Story - Phzzzt! Hey, what happened?! ... Isn't it obvious?
Moral - Never dismiss the obvious.

about your trunk release. i just did this on my 96 caprice. i used a relay and found the black trunk release wire in wire bundle in the drivers side kick panel. you will also find the door lock/unlock wires in the same bundle.
