I haven't seen too much discussion on the newer Audiovox Prestige units, the APS-510B, APS-687A, APS-787A and XR-6900. I'm sure there are folks on this forum that have either installed them or had them installed on their vehicles. Would like good or bad comments on any or all of the listed systems. I'm purchasing either an alarm or remote starter and they look pretty good, but looks can be deceiving. I'd like to see if they are as reliable as the older products and if the installation goes OK. I plan on doing the install myself, if I get the remote starter I may just hook up the keyless entry parts to get my feet wet. If all goes well I may finish the job on my 2006 Ford Taurus. I want something to at least lock/unlock and trunk pop but the remote start might be handy.

Thanks for any comments again good or bad. If these don't live up to the standards I would rather change my mind now than after purchasing!

I can not speak first hand about the newer units, but we do sell them where I work.  If the quality had diminished, the installers would have let me know.  I have not heard them say anything negative about any of the newer ones.  I am very familiar and happy with the 996A and 997A, both of those units are at least a couple years old.

Audiovox security and remote starts are rock solid. If you're gonna do it, might as well get the alarm/rs combo right off the bat. The aps-787 will work fine, or take a look at the xr-9000 with 2 way confirmation. Just in case you didnt know, you will need a bypass for your vehicle....i would look at a keyoveride all from fortin or a pkall from bypasskit.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like a fairly solid system.

Anyone actually install or have one of these systems on your vehicle?? Would like to know from someone especially how the newer remotes work!    The owners manuals I downloaded are pretty vague about programming and options.
