new autopage or prestige remote start?

Through much deliberation, research, and asking questions I have my choices narrowed down to four! They are as follows:

1) Prestige APS-687A
2) Prestige APS-787A
3) Autopage RS-622
4) Autopage RS-662

I don't really want the alarm at this time so choices (1) and (3) would seem obvious. But there is very little increase in price to add the alarm features and I could change my mind some day. They all seem to be close to what I am looking for.

1) Are there any yea's or nay's from those using or installing these??
2) Any track record on these for dependability?
3) Are there still issues using the Prestige data port with a bypass immobilizer?
4) Do I HAVE to mount the antenna for these on my windshield? I'm not looking for great range, would it work under the dash by the control module for 50-100 feet?

1. I've installed Audiovox for over seven years, but I've put in two Ultra starters too.

Obviously I'm more used to the Audiovox, but I also like the remotes better, as well as all their extra inputs and outputs.

However, the Audiovox's manual is poorly written, and programming the features can be confusing for a first-time user. The Ultra's manuals are better.

2. I've certainly seen a few Audiovox units fail, but most comebacks are either the fault of the installation or defective remotes.   The remotes are reliable, but they're definitely the most-fragile part of the system.

Depending on where you buy the product from, the Audiovox lifetime warranty should cover the remotes.

A lot of manufacturers have a fake warranty that doesn't cover the remote, which is probably the most fragile part of any system.

3. Their DBI port is neither well-documented or well-supported. It works on some cars but not others. What kind of bypass module will you be using, and on what kind of car?

4. Regardless of brand, it will still work with the antenna under the dash, or even stuck right onto the back of the brain itself. Range will be poor, but I had a co-worker who (irritatingly) did almost all of his cars that way for a while.......and surprisingly, a great many of them never even came back with a range complaint.

If you do that, at least leave the extra length of antenna cable in such a way that you won't have to tear apart your entire installation if you decide to extend it to the windshield later.

Thanks for the good info on the Audiovox product. However I think in your reply you confused the Ultrastart product with the Autopage I was asking about!! Have you had any experience with the Autopage line??

In reference to the dataport issue I'm not certain what kind of bypass I'll be using but it will be going on a 2006 Ford Taurus.

Hopefully if I purchase the Audiovox APS-787A I can get some help deciphering the instructions if I need any??

Did a little checking and I would probably purchase the Key Override SL2 at this time. And it would be for a 2006 Ford Taurus.

Any other comments on the Autopage-Audiovox models listed??
