Hey everyone.

We just picked up a 2003 Olds Alero on friday that has a compustar CM4200 installed.Wouldn't do anything when we got it,so i replaced the battery's and reprogramed the remote.

When i hit the lock/unlock the parking lights will flash once or twice and i can hear the relays click in the module.Start/stop does nothing.

Car does have a immobilizer in it,but i figured if that was the problem my door locks should still work.

If anyone has any ideas it would be great.

Thanks

When you trigger the remote start, do the park lights flash? If so, how many times?

You may also want to try programming the tach rate. To do this, start the vehicle and push the button on the alarm brain. You should see the park lights flash once if it is successful. If it doesn't read tach then the park lights will flash three times.

Let us know what you find and we can help you further.

Is the button for the brain on the module or the anntenna?,cause i found a button there too.

Thanks,i will give this a try tonight.

You shouldnt have to program the tach those units will start without programming the tach it may just over crank.
When you attempt to start do you tap the start button or do you push and hold. What kind of remote do you have a 1way or 2way if you have the 2way you must push and hold the II button until the remote beeps. If you have a 1way you must push and hold the key button until the light flickers and shuts off. But you must hold the buttons down in order to start.

Tried programming according to the manual, still nothing at all.Park lights will still only flash when i trigger lock/unlock.

I have to push and hold the button till the light flashes.Remote model 1wam4r.

Any other ideas for me to try?

As i mentioned before it also has an aftermarket immobilizer installed for insurance reasons.

What aftermarket immobilizer do you have or are you talking about the factory security?

If you sit in the car and try to start what happens?

When you tried to program the tach what happened?

The parking lights should flash a certain number when you attempt to program the tach of times how many flashes do you get?

may be overlooking the obvious. it sounds like the module is in valet mode. cannot remember off hand but on the back of the remote, it will tell you the 2 button sequence to take the module out of valet mode. maybe give that a try.

The parking lights will not flash in valet mode

Just went out and put my compustar into valet mode, the parking lights actually DO flash on lock and unlock, but there is absolutely no flashes or response from the vehicle when the start button is pushed. I might be wrong but I have run into this issue many times where the 4200 module is involved. it might be worth taking a look at

Not sure on the brand of immobilizer, but they have to be installed for insurance purposes. Also has the factory anti-theft.You need to swipe a little tag near a sensor to power up the ign. in order to start the car with the keys.

This after market immobilizer is supposed to be by-passed in order for the remote start to operate.

I can only get my park lights to flash twice .

What happens when you sit in the car and try to remote start do any dash lights come on?

The 2 light flashes is that from trying to program the tach

Just went out and tried again.

When i sit in the car and trigger the start, nothing happens,no lights or relays. If i trigger the lock/unlock,the parking lights will flash once or twice and i hear  coresponding clicks from a relay.

Just tried the programing again using the button on the ant. with the car running.I can hear 3 clicks at the module, but no park lights flash.

What does the remote look like is it one way or 2way?
Using the button on the antenna does not program the tach.

So how are you trying to program the tach?
Also how do you know that the remote starter is a 4200 model?
How are you attempting to put it into and take it out of valet mode?
Be specific what buttons are you pushing and how long are you holding them for?
You said that you put it in and took it out of valet mode how do you know it was in valet mode?

When i tried to program the tach,I did as one mentioned, with the car running push the button on the brain(ant) and see how many times the park lights flash.Mine did not flash only heard 3 clicks.

I pulled the module down from uder the dash to see the model number and make of it.

I went into valet mode as per the instruction book of holding the lock/unlock/trunk button for 1/2 second.Have also done the key on/off 5 times within 7 sec.

When i trigger start i hold the button for 1/2 sec, release then the light on my remote will flash.

you must push and hold the button for 3 sec to remote start the car

Also to program the tach on the 4200 series you must start the car with the key hold the brake and push the start button and hold for 3 sec at that point you will get a number of flashes it should be one to state that the tach is good. But if you push and hold the start button to remote start that shoul solve the problem
