I have a 98 Cavalier Z24.  It has the factory trunk actuator with remote keyless entry.  I want to ad a button to the inside so I can pop the trunk while the car is running.  I know that it is a positive trigger.  Do I need to put a relay on it or can I just tap into the wire and put a button in between it with 12+ constant.  If I do need a relay could you please tell me how to wire it?  Thanks for the help!

I would wire in a relay to be safe.

  • 86: 12 volt Constant ( Fuse at 20 amps )
  • 85: One side of a two prong push button switch. The other side of the switch should be grounded to chassis.
  • 30: To (+) trunk release wire
  • 87: 12 volt Constant ( Fuse at 20 amps )
  • 87a: NOT USED

So, the 12+ constant can be tapped from the glove box light if I want, right?  Thanks for the help.

If you can find one then use it, otherwise all you need to di is tap into the fuse panel and run a wire fromt here to the relay.
