My new '09 Corolla trunk latch doesn't seem to open the trunk. The car uses a smart key remote. I can open trunk using the in-car release, or by holding the trunk remote button. The rubber release on the trunk door itself does not seem to work at all.
Could someone tell me which wire to check to see if the trunk latch is unplugged? and which panel?
The car is only 1 day old :(

1. Try unlocking ALL doors (driver and passenger) by remote first. I know that on the Sienna van, the power sliding doors won't work with the doors locked.
2. Since you said you can use the in-car release handle successfully, I'm sure this isn't the case.........but just to be sure, check the thingy (I can't remember the name) that prevents mechanics and parking attendants from accessing the trunk.
You'll have to read the owner's manual, but there's some sort of lever or handle inside the trunk that's supposed to disable the in-car release handle. Work that back and forth and make sure it's in the correct posistion, can't hurt.

Thx Chris. I will visit the dealer tomorrow. Looks like they need to be reminded a PDI includes trying to open the trunk :-)
I was just taking that as an excuse to look at the panel and wanted to know which wire is the culprit if the trunk handle (rubber membrane switch) does not open the trunk.
