Alright I'm having a problem with the remote start (compustar 1wam-s). I had it installed 3 years ago at a dealer and it comes with a lifetime warranty but it has never worked and I'm tired of taking it back. I have a 05 nissan x-trail standard 5 speed. What is happening is the vehicle will start and run for 3 seconds and stop and do it again over and over. It does this only when it is cold, go figure. When it is warm it works fine. The idiots at the shop don't seem to understand this and I even recorded it and showed them. Of course when I take it over it works because it is warm by then and when it is in their bay being worked on it is also warm and it works. From what I've read and even they mentioned about the coil wire and they moved it. Can someone tell me where to hook this wire and what color the wire is in the compustar harness so I don't have to rip it all apart or is there another wire? Should it be hooked to the alternator or the injectors or where? Please help.

Funny...there is a discussion about an xterrra with the same issues. First, the vehicle has 2 starter wires. You would need to make sure both wires are connected to the remote start. One of them happens to be the cold start wire. The tach wire from the remote start, is yellow/black as shown below.

TACH SIGNAL YELLOW/BLACK (CN3) SEE NOTES    
Each coil has 3 wires. GREEN / WHITE, Black & a third wire that can be used for tach.

Thanks I read that on the xterra but his does not start on each attemp but mine does, it starts and runs for 3 second and then shuts off, it does it repeatedly. It is obvious the remote start is shutting it down. I'm worried about the tach wire you suggest as this is the one they might have tried and I wonder if there is another?

Another possible scenario is a malfuntioning by-pass.

You need to hook up that tach wire to an injector. That should solve your issue. The tach wire shouldnt be messed with unless you are authorized. If you ground out that wire your going to mess some ish up. I insist that you take it to your dealer and have them move your tach wire from the coil to injector 1. Thats your best bet.

If I can find where they hooked it to the tach connection I can remove it and join it to the injector wire. I am cautious and can solder properly.

Hi Stony, i take it you have a gasoline version. I installed compustar on my 05 dCi engine. Works fine. I installed my own cold start timer that gives signal to compustar, i set it to around 5 sec. If you like, i can maybe help you with wiring diagrams for ur car.

I have come across this issue before on other vehicle makes. The issue can be with the module not properly interpreting a tach signal, in extreme cold temperatures. The circuit responsible for tach decoding operates out of specification. I would suggest you enable the shutdown diagnostics for your R/S, next time. This will give you the reason for shutdown. In this exact circumstance, the module is the issue and not the by-pass.

Has it been programmed for a tach signal?  The fact that it runs for 3 secs tells me that the module is OK,  also I think the second starter has been conectedf otherwise would it even start?  Also forget by-pass problems otherwise it might turn over but not fire up.  Injector preferred by me,  each injector has 2 wires, one colour will be comon to all, take any of the other colours.  2nd,  go to rear of inst panel, if still standard wiring rather than data, use back of tach (rev counter).  It will give you a better reading. 3rd, use an inductive generator such as the DEI (454?). It's pretty fail safe and won't "harm" the vehicle.
