My POS radioshack multimeter is dying and I'm looking for a new one; trying not to spend more than $50-60. Anyone used Extech meters before? Do they hold up well?
Everyone says Fluke is the best and they're probably right, but I don't have 200 bucks to dish out, and don't really care about getting a meter that is super super accurate. This particular model from Extech has all the features I want (auto-power off, autoranging, rubber holster, AC/DC current & voltage, frequency, capacitance, resistance, continuity test, removable test leads) and it's only 40 bucks.
I plan on taking good care of the new meter but everyone knows that anything can happen to it during the course of an install--they can get dropped out of the door, squished between you and the floor, pulled on by the test leads, etc...
I'm not saying I expect it to last me 10 years or anything--just definitely longer than the 1-2 months this crappy little $15 radioshack meter lasted me.
I've heard of Extech before but was wondering if you guys had any opinions of them? Thanks in advance.
I just bought a Extech meter from radio shack a month ago...R/S # 22-816. It was 89 bucks. So far, i've been very happy with it...especially the backlit display....very easy to read. Also, the continuity beep is loud enough to hear over the door chime, etc. I replaced my Snap-On penstyle meter with the extech. I paid over a 100bucks for my snap-on 4 years ago, my extech has sofar been a bette meter to work with, especially b/c it does more functions & cost's less.
Just my .02 though.
