Okay i just recently bought a Viper 791VX with remote start...i have done a few allarms before but never a remote start system. This is all going into a 2000 Chevy Silverado

Now for the questions....

I've read a few things on the factory GM passlock system and how you have to bypass it. I know there's a kit from DEI you can purchase to bypass it but i was wondering if there's any other way around that?

The allarm system also came with (2) window control modules. I want to be able to roll my windows down before i get into my truck (i live in california) during summer, and roll them up when i leave the truck...

On the unit itself it has these wires:
Pink-to accessory item
Green-Left motor
White-Left switch
Orange-500ma Activaticn
Black-Ground
Red-Constant
Blue-Right motor
Brown-Righ switch

It says to cut the wire for the right motor and switch, do i need to do this for both the right and left windows?

What do i hook up the pink and orange wires to? I'm sure the orange probably needs to be hooked up to an accessory output off the brain of the allarm...or no?

I know there's more questions but i'll start with these....thanks in advance!

yes you need to cut the wires for both windows, the pink wire is unused, the orange wire you hook to the RED / white wire from the 791xv primary harness. and there is another way around the passlock, but it will permanently defeat the passlock system.

what would be the point of keeping the passlock system?

it's there to prevent thieves from stealin ur car, if this isn't an issue well, then there is no point to keeping it.

......wouldn't installing an allarm be the same thing?

i saw a few how-to's on using a number of relays to bypass it instead of getting the bypass module (5 bucks per relay or 50+ for the module....i'm broke btw) ...is that the easiest way or is there a way to just chop the whole thing out?

Bypassing a factory immobilizer is a little more difficult than hot-wiring the starter wire to start the vehicle if you are a garden-variety thief. You also have to remember that the Passlock information gets sent to critical components in the vehicle and when you start messing with, such as trying to permanently bypass it, you are asking for a bunch of problems. Save yourself some headache and purchase a $50 bypass and be done with it. You may want it cheap but you get what you pay for. Just some professional advise-it's your truck.

ok let me break it down for you, the bypass would allow only allow you to remotely start the vehicle, and still prevent a hotwiring attempt, wheras permanently bypassing the passlock would allow remote starting and hotwiring to succesfully start the vehicle, making it easy prey for thieves, but as i said earlier, if the vehicle being stolen is not an issue then you can go ahead and do the permanent bypass, ths would be the relay, resistor method.

What?? You completely took what I said out of context. Read it again and maybe understand what I am trying to say. I am referring to someone who would attempt to steal a vehicle. It would be more difficult to hot-wire a vehicle with a factory immobilizer like Passlock, than having nothing at all. CHILL OUT.

got it...until this point i was under the impression that the passlock system was basically just a factory allarm system...thanks for clearing that up for me.

Okay installed a viper 791xv with remote start yesterday. Came with a new unprogrammed remote. Went to program the remote and nothing happens...so in order of events

door open
key to "on" position
press valet once for channel 1
press valet a second time, and hold down
led light flashes once and horn honks once
press button on remote to program and it gives 3 beeps (like it does when you're too far away from the vehicle and you try to unlock it)

then when i turn the truck all the way off it gives off one long honk

try to test it and nothing happens....

what is going on? someone please help me.....thanks in advance

Possible causes:

  • Defective remote
  • Defective antenna
  • Defective module

You could try to delete all the remotes. However, that may not program either. Are you holding the valet button, while you are using the remote? Where did you purchase the unit?

i thought it could possibly be the module as well but if the module was bad the led wouldn't flash would it?

yes i am holding the valet button while using the remote and the light flashes depending on the channel i'm trying to program and the horn honks depending on what channel i'm trying to program as well which again makes me think it's not the module.......
